For anyone who wants to take on a small DIY project here is what I did. First have a beer then remove the bulb housing by turning it counter clockwise. Then remove the BMW roundel from the clear plastic " I used dental floss to get it started" it is held on with double sided tape. Once you have it off then remove the Clear lens from the white base. It is glued together and can be pulled apart once started or you can use a tool like a Dremel to cut it off.

Once all 3 are done then you can cut the clear housing. I used blue tape and taped around one of the lines in the plastic, one of the lines runs exactly half way thru. I cut exactly half off this left me with just enough room for the bulb when re-assembled. Once taped I then used a Dremel to cut it off. This part took a little time because you don't want to damage the plastic. After the bottom half is removed I used a table sander to smooth it out and get it flat. Once finished glue the emblem back onto the clear housing. Because the re-install requires the base to be turned clockwise into the fender you need to line it up with where the emblem will end up after you turn it so play with this and make some marks for reference. Finally install the bulb back into the base glue the clear housing / roundel in place and let dry.

Even with half of the housing gone it still lites up just fine.

I concur!
The ACS is WAY over stylized for my taste & the Hamann

I really like the shaved 'burger
I'll probably give this a go myself.

The other thing I really don't like is the circular body seam,
I'd love to clean that up.

Rom3n - Just a suggestion....
Your last DIY post^ should be a new thread in the DIY section
Nice work.

I agree with inTgr8r on the ACS deflectors being over-styled. I had them on my '04 3.0i, and they certainly did get old real fast for me. I ended up taking them off after a couple of months and preferred the stock look.

You mean you got tired of a mod quickly and changed to something else? That's not like you!

Rom3n, stop giving intgr8r more ideas. He hasn't seen his wife in 2 years 'cause all his free time is spent driving and modding his car.

That's probably cause it clashed w/ your wheel pattern..you don't have this anymore I presume, do you??

You're not gonna believe what I just told MakoBimmer. I've had my new wheels mounted for 2 days and already I'm thinking about replacing them.

GP20..I'll take that as a 'no'..just a shot in the dark if you still had the ACS deflector and were parting w/ them, I know it was an older ride of your's..

I see an after-market replacement opportunity here for a clever entrepreneur. Low profile side markers, you pick the logo color white/black, white/Imola, etc.....Packaged in pairs....twist off, twist on....Done. How much would you pay for this?

Sorry about my late reply. I swear I replied you earlier but must not have sent the message correctly.

Yeah the ACS defelctors were sold a couple of years ago. I agree with you that the wheels and the deflectors might've clashed a bit. I think the ACS deflectors would look much nicer on darker Z4's like black or toledo blue, and too plan and just don't have enough contrast on white, or ti-silver.

To be honest, for a brief (very brief) moment I thought about getting those ACS deflectors again for my silver gray Z4M, only I'd paint the slats black, or make them look like carbon fiber. But then I thought, nah.

Rom3n - A couple of ?

- Did you worry about the interlock tabs?
or did you just shave the 'burger in half.
I just wondered about the long term integrity from twisting on & off.
The tabs give it mechanical leverage.

- what glue/weld did you use? (Relates to 1st ? ^)
If the weld is strong enough, it will provide enough mechanical integrity.
The weld would have to be UV resistant as well.

Tabs = Gone

I used this stuff to bond it. I have used it on lots of plastics and it has never failed to hold over time.

I think it looks cool, but if I just saw of a picture of it by itself, I would think it looks like a very cool gas cap!

inTgr8r, I expect the tabs are there to index the lens on the base. The roundel is probably indexed by pins in the 2 holes in the lens. I'll scribe a series of marks on the bottom of all 3 parts before taking them apart. Glad I saw this. It will give me something to do this weekend. GH

Did this quite a while ago...
I didn't bother with the tabs, worked out great.

Part of the problem reducing the size is the length of the bulb.
If you can find a shorter replacement bulb, you can reduce them more.

Hamburger delete does look pretty cool, and you retain that stock look.
