H&R coilovers installed, opinions welcome.

Hi there,

Just installed a new set of H&R coilovers on my Roadster, along with some RE rear strut mounts. Also refreshed some of the bushings here and there, and the feel of the car has been transformed of course. Incredible ride, and it makes you realize just how shot up and beat down the nearly 10 year old stock suspension was.

Anyway, I wanted to get your opinions on how the stance looks. I'm a *bit* bummed because I don't think it looks dropped enough. The folks who aligned the car told me if I go any lower, I'm going to be eating through tires at a quick rate. I'm not sure if I believe it as my last Z4M sat lower than this (at least in my mind. My last Z4M is in the last picture for comparison purposes), and I wasn't chewing through tires with it. I'm just thinking maybe they didn't have the ability to get a lower car on the rack, and kept it raised up a bit just so they could do the alignment.

So what say you? Stance OK, or should it be lower? No rubbing right now of course. Thanks for your thoughts/opinions!

Here are a few better pics, the ones above are kind of dark. I dunno, maybe the suspension will settle a bit in the next couple days? Or, maybe I'm just seeing some gap that really isn't there and it looks OK?

I'd be very happy with that - I think it looks great. Personally I'd leave it

Looks great man, it looks low enough. Anything more and you'll be scraping everywhere. To preserve tires, get the car aligned with 0 toe up front. I wouldn't be surprised if you have a lot of static negative camber by dropping the ride height to where it is so you could dial in some positive camber to get closer to stock.

FWIW my TCK's on lowest setting have a lot more wheel gap than your ride lol.

Hah ok, thanks for the feedback fellas and the tips. I had a feeling I was being a bit ridiculous, looking at the pics between my old Z4M and my current cars, there's hardly any difference. I'll be happy with what I've got for now, thanks again.

I don't know what you're talking about Nicky, that looks great! Those rims look huge, are they 19's? And are those skid marks in the 1st picture from you doing donuts right before you took that picture?

Thanks sir, I really appreciate the compliment! Yes, they are 19" Linea Corse 818s. Skid marks aren't mine unfortunately, haha.

Now, I *really* need to get some color inside those wheels in the form of some BBKs, but oh the price is tough to stomach right now. I've always got my eyes out in the E46 M3 crowd for the Porsche Brembo upgrade, which is probably the way I'll go eventually. Some colorful calipers will make a huge difference imho.

Thanks again.

Haha, thanks. Does this mean I should cancel my order for the underglows?

Probably, but it's still OK to do this:

I saw a lot of cars this year sporting this look in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes."

For starters, it's a bit more subtle than the picture suggests.
I should have took a pic with my headlights on.
That's just the halos, and my cell phone adjusted the "f-stop" to make it all look brighter than it really is.
It's my old shattered 3rd brake light, and some makeshift brackets.
Makes it look like the engine's glowing red hot.
Some go for the stock grill, some for the all black Euro grill, some for the black-chrome grill,
I like the BBQ grill.

As my sig line says:

Well good for you, that an interesting use of a busted third brake light! I must admit, when playing GTA V on my PC, I do like to trick out my cars with blacklight or lime green underglows. Haha.

Didn't you have a new BBK that you were selling a couple months ago?

Yeah, sold it. Money isn't as good as it was several years ago. This economy is terrible and I don't see much light at the end of the tunnel. What I'd like to do with my car and what I will do are two entirely different things.

I'm very happy with what I have right now, that's the most important thing.

Well look at it this way. At least business is doing well enough for you to drive a Z4 M and it's summer so you can drive your roadster top down. Life is good

Maybe just clean and paint the clips/calipers you already have.

Yeah, no complaints really. Tens of millions of people in this country have it way worse than I do right now, no room to complain.

Nah, I never paint the stock calipers. I think it looks cheap (unless they are big stock calipers like Brembo or something). Just my personal feeling of course.

Car looks great, I'm surprised that they didn't really want to go any lower, I would say it's a conservative drop, it really all depends on how/where you drive and how much/if you scrape. I just recently had my H&R coilovers put on and was very happy with the drop. I would go lower but I am way too close to
scraping as it is. My alignment had to be done with the bumper off, as it was too low to clear the edge of the alignment rack, so I can see how they would have said you're low enough because their rack couldn't handle a very lowered car.
