This transmission (at least mine) has never liked being rushed. Hasn't changed after 12 years in my garage and I gave up trying. Even using Royal Purple Synchromesh fluid didn't change that. I mostly gave up stoplight drag racing, and with more e-vehicles being able to show us their lights it just doesn't make sense anymore.

I much prefer to pull in front of them after the drama is done and then coax them to follow along into an upcoming curve at an increasing rate of speed..

I also just bought a z4mc that had this issue. I thought it was the fluid, switched to RP and it didn't fix the issue. I run GM friction modified on my e46 m3 and have no issues with it. May try the ford fluid first after a few thou miles. Thats for that suggestion!

This might be obvious...

Make sure the floor mat has not slipped forward and is blocking full clutch travel. Mine do that.

In my opinion , the transmission is a huge flaw and BMW were fully aware but the Z is "cheap" M so they don't care. The problem was not present in the e28,e30,e36,e46 or e90.

Others have mentioned engine mounts and fluids, truly nothing will fix it as its a design issue. You will always grind 2nd gear if you shift it as fast as you can. I hope someone can prove me wrong.

The solution: swap in the 5 speed ZF or the 6 speed 420G.

The thing is it's an awesome car so I can easily overlook this flaw
