Do you get the itch to drive you winterized Z
I don't know why but every year towards the end of February I always get this need to drive my Z. I started the car other day and smoked up the garage until it warmed up a bit to rev it a few times.
I forgot how good it sounds. I guess January and February really wear me out I envy the people that live in warmer climates. |

I thought we had it bad down here in Northern Virginia. Usually have to wait a few days/weeks after a snow storm for it to rain and clear the roads of all the salt and sand. Winter has been mild this year thankfully.

It seems to get worse every winter, the cabin fever is killing me this year. I get everyday and walk for 90 min but find myself longing the warmth of the sun. I was thinking about starting up the porsche the other day because the sun was out and it was calling my name. My wife and I and another couple are off to New Orleans in a few weeks and it looks like it will be warm when we're there and once we get home Im hoping for weather that will suit the porsches 2019 debut. We actually have some spring ground flowers coming up in our garden so that's better than much of the Great White North.

I actually had to take mine out of the garage for a bit It was nice to start it up and get behind the wheel, but trying to get up the driveway on summers not so nice.

Not so much get in and drive it as cold thick 10w-60 oil in cold weather scares me...rod bearings!...rod bearings!...rod bearings!...but I've definitely gone into the garage and sat in it a few times. April can't come soon enough for me!

Yes...the salt as well. Although I grease the Z4M and the daily in the fenders or any gaps where water (and therefore salt water) could sit and take advantage of any paint imperfections/unprotected sheet metal (oil being heavier than water so...providing a protective layer between metal and the elements)...I still can't subject the Z4M to salt. I've had many cars...plan on having many more and faster ones etc...but for a bunch or reasons...the Z4M is a keeper

Last year the weather sucked so badly that it was June before I put my Z on the road. Even then I only did it because my regular vehicle was in the shop for some maintenance and I needed a car that day. By rights, I would not have taken the Z out otherwise. I'm praying for better weather this year.
So this may explain why some Canadian Z4s are very low mileage - the weather ain't fit at least 6 months of the year - or maybe longer!

Just got back from three glorious weeks in Australia. Talk about spring fever! The most incredible glass smooth ocean road driving ever to be experienced. Wish I had been in the M- had to settle for Kia rental van. Its March and still freezing here for chrissake.

Believe me, I am right there with ya, brought mine last summer with 96k km on it, in about 4 months I put in just under 3k km on it... some of that is driving back from Ottawa with the car

Back to the topic - I'm more itching to try out the new mods on the Z4MC, but not enough to want to put her through a Canadian winter. On the other hand my E92 hates me because I daily drove her through the winter. I did an oil change a couple weeks back an the 10W60 was like syrup.

10W60 is great if you push the vehicle on the track but can't image this working optimally daily driving the vehicle in Canadian winter times. What's your thought in the subject? |

That said I'm not sure the 10W50 or 10W40 weights would net any benefit. If you were to change viscosity I think a 5W50 or 5W40 would bring more cold temperature benefits - though I would be careful not to push the car as hard even when fully warmed up, especially with a 5W40.

And my 2006 Z4 has 59,000 km / 36,600 miles on it. I drive it every time the weather is good here. So I don't drive it much LOL! There's an old joke about the place. Question: "What's the weather like in summer there?" Answer: "On that day, we all go swimming."
