Has anyone ever changed the body colour of their Z4/Z4M?

I bought my Z4M used and as such I didn't really have any choice when it came to the colour of the vehicle. It is interlagos blue, which is nice, but my first choice is the metalic silver.

Has anyone ever changed the colour of their car? Would it be a mistake to do so? Does it affect the resale value of the car?

My opinion -it would make more sense to buy another car in the colour you want.

I saw Kline Racing painted their Z orange. Not bad. Check it out at: http://www.tcklineracing.com/carssale.htm

I would suggest a vinyl wrap over painting, especially over Interlagos Blue. The vinyl wrap's have a life of 3-5 years and can be removed, restoring the original color.

While I don't have any evidence to throw out there, I have seen Z4M's for sale with accent paint (ie, stripes etc) that were very under valued when I was looking for my car.

Isn't Interlagos Blue a somewhat desirable color too?

Repainting the car would be foolish. Either wrap it or buy a different one. Selling a car that has been painted a different color would cost you in loss of value as much most likely as it did to have it painted.

No aftermarket paint finish is going to come close to the quality of paint from the factory, where the paint is uniformly and electrostatically attracted to every part of the body. Getting aftermarket paint is going to slaughter the resale value of your car. It's about the worst way to spend $5000, IMO.

I would only do it if you were planning to keep the car forever, and if there is existing damage to the paint that would require a great deal of repainting.

Like the others have said, either sell and buy another Z4M, or just have yours wrapped. Although I don't believe a metallic silver wrap is available right now. But you can get it wrapped to look like BMW's new Frozen Gray.

Interlagos Blue was one of the more common colors and so would not be considered unusually desirable. Nevertheless changing the original color will almost certainly lower the resale value of the car and would be unwise. The exception to that would be if you are planning on radical body modifications; in that case a different color would be fine since it would be in keeping with the modified nature of the car. That was the case with the TC Kline car, but even they were unable to succeed with that car and they lost a fortune in engineering and tooling for cars that they were never able to sell.

^interlagos blue was indeed one of the more popular color choices on the z4m's, but as far as i'm aware, it's an m-exclusive color only, just as imola red and silver grey are. black sapphire, alpine white, titanium silver and later space grey are colors readily available across most of bmw's current lineup. of course, this isn't to discount the individual beauty of each of these colors. i myself was in the market for the rarer, alpine white m coupes.

as has been said already, i'd advise against repainting ur car in a different color. it'll be very costly, affect resale value and may or may not be of the same quality as the original factory finish. i do, however, feel that bmw's factory paint finish isn't among the better ones in the industry.

^pretty sure silver gray isn't M exclusive. I believe the sepang bronze is, as well as the IB and IR.

Wrapped refers to vinyl wrap; PS is an abbreviation of Photoshop.
