I'm about to purchase an 08 M Coupe. Have I missed something? What tranny issues? I thought they were rock-solid and reliable as hell.

Someone please clear the air for me?

You must live in a strange neighbourhood.

Free sounds pretty good to me. I wish I had made it to that party.

the getrag manual transmission was carried over from the non-m z4s instead of the transmission found in the e46 m3 and csl. it has a history of feeling 'notchy' in the lower gears in terms of shifter feel, and has the common (to all manual bmws) clutch delay valve installed that does exactly as it states - delay release of the clutch to prevent shock to the drive train. there are also issues with gear engagement in high lateral g turns to the right, which will be noticeable only under track conditions. these have all been discussed to death on zpost.

to each his own, i'd test drive without these conditions in mind and go strictly with my feel of the shifter and transmission. the m's have robust, reliable and heavy duty transmissions, so it's really the minor quirks of it that some find issue with.

So a CDV from Zeckhausen, a ZHP shift knob and maybe a short-shift kit and the "problem" is solved?
