Thanks!

No MAF on this one, the air box is simply too big in diameter and going down to a diameter which allows a MAF to be fitted will take away most of the noise and response.

A totally separate tune is required for Schrick cams. Cost is the same, just needs changes made to the fuel, cam timing and ignition maps.

What exactly are the drawbacks associated with an Alpha-N solution then?

You must keep the air filter element clean and ensure the Pre CAT 02 sensors are in good health.

Other than that, after tuning literally cars in the thousands now, we have had great success in alphaN running it on E39 M5, E46 M3, E36 M3 and E60 M5.

Post as many questions as you wish on the subject of alphaN and any concerns you may have.

Does the airbox/alphaN tune create issues with smog(I'm in California)? Assuming visual isn't an issue.

I have about 25,000 miles on my Evolve CF Airbox and Evolve AlphaN on my E46 M3. No drawbacks in regards to performance, reliability, and drivability. The only drawback is the hunger for more NA power....

OBDII Testing is passed on the other cars. Not sure I can do the same on these but will try my very best and probably have a solution.

As for the tail pipe test, the large majority pass. We do have a few exceptions on E39 M5's which run very rich to start with and the MAF's help them lean out just enough to pass. These cars typically have issues with vacuum leaks. Even on those it's very very few.

If you fail on visual... well, there is not really much we can do about that.

Excellent. That was my primary concern. Keep us updated in that regard. Thanks guys

Well,

it's pretty much done.

WOOTS gets an evolve-R cable just incase we need to do small updates on the tuning but as of right now it's incredibly smooth and very drivable.

OMG I think I just, hhnnngggg, nevermind. need vids meow!!!

Also in for price. That was a quick turnaround!

Would you expect any problems with a CSL header/catless Section 1 with this box and tune?

Thanks!

No problems will be had with exhausts, headers etc.

Turnaround was quick due to us being quite very organised on this. We had every single part we needed here.

Price will be announced by Imran.

Some data logs from last night data logging on the road.

Intake temperatures once moving start falling rapidly towards ambient.
Once at 50mph and cruising for even 1 min the intake temps reach ambient + 1-2 degrees C.
Once around 60mph intake = ambient.

So, the factory cold air feed is extremely efficient which is a real bonus for the Z4M community.
Heat intake into the air box can be further reduced by making a small heat shield at the bottom of the mouth. This however will only be important for low speed driving or at the drag strip.

Please bare in mind this is a non lacquered prototype box. The production ones look like the pictures in the first post of this thread.

Amazing photos and data collection guys!

I'm curious what the stock Z4M air feed looks like because it took me a few times to finally settling on a large volume and efficient cold air feed on my E46 M3!

Keep up the great work.

Wide band on the dyno was broken. New one arriving in the morning.

Currently the car is still running at lowered conditions as the tuning has literally only been done to run alphaN. No ignition timing has been added and no vanos tuning has been done so we will run the car like it is. This should give us an accurate idea of what the airbox does in isolation.
Then we will start tuning like we do on stage 1 /2 by optimizing the ignition, fuel enrichment and valve overlap.
We should get around 5-10hp from the airbox and around 15hp from the tuning.

What we can already say is that the engine feels like it has more power under full load. Without question the throttle response and low-midrange torque under partial (but quite heavy) load is far superior. This is something we cannot measure on a dyno in a way we can show a graph. The owner will give his feedback which will be far more authentic.

Would also like to make something very clear to readers.

WOOTS (Adam) is paying for this airbox. It's not far off full price less the shiny finish.
What we do not do is give away parts for free even if the car is given in. While this may not sound fair to some we have learnt from experience that unless someone pays for something they do not fully appreciate it. They also do not properly asses it and almost feel obliged to say only positive things.
It is very important to us that a true picture is painted of what the product does and this method we have seen ensures this happens.
If there is a complaint or something which is not right we want it posted in the open.
Transparency is key here.

The tuning, additional hardware and evolve-R are not something we are charging for. This is the gift.

Whether this thought is rational or not, I have a hard time with the fact that these tune files you create are not car specific. My fear is that for instance just to make a point..... my car will be the THAT one car that although "feels right" running evolve's tune is silently being stressed in a way that is detrimental to its overall health especially when being stressed in a racing/on track environment.

General speaking....
How much variance to you expect to see car to car running an off the shelf tune?

Does aftermarket modifications add to the unpredictability of creating consistency in performance gains/ideal operating conditions from the tune you create from WOOT's car assuming it is in proper running condition to begin with?

Is there a benefit to remote tuning and if so is this a possibility you would offer to us North Americans?
