Mud flaps/Flare, Made in Bakersfield

Hey guys,
I’be been wanting a mud flap ever since I got my Z4 4 years ago.
Being that the OEM’s were discontinued, I wanted to make my own and since I do attend a Design school, I thought, why not make them myself.

I just installed a simple prototype but I’m happy with a quick and dirty mud flap.

I got some black ABS plastic on Ebay. .05mm but meant to get 1/16 thick piece.
And some double sided 3M tape.
I Just used the .05 for shits and jiggles.

Here are some pix. I’ll take better ones when the sun comes up.

Whatcha think?

I love your design! How effective have they been so far? Has the double-sided tape held on well?

I actually have the OEM rear mud flaps but I wish they aren't so bulky. They sometimes scrape too. Your design looks clean and discreet.

Thanks!!! I appreciate the feedback.
(NOTE: these are just a test mock up)

I agree, I like the OEM mud flaps too and are discontinued or really hard to find, and like you said, they are bulky and look heavy for my taste.

I wanted to make something light/sharp and easy to install.

These are 1/16" thin just as a mock up.
I originally wanted 1/8" a little sturdier but these are holding up very well. The 3M double sided tape is working also. No complaints.

I installed the rear a few weeks ago and they worked wonderfully after it lightly rained.
This week, I finally added the front, hasn't rained yet to see how those work.

*It's been pretty dry here in Bakersfield, but I'll post a little something after it's rained.

Field photos coming soon!! 🗾🏞🌅🌉🎇

Here's an update...
It rained a couple days ago and looks like the block a lot.

These being a "prototype", my next go around I'll be getting a thicker sheet of abs, 1/8th
The 3M Double sided tape also held up and will for a while.

The front flaps, I'll be making them go out a little further like the rear.

But pretty happy with the design and their coverage.

(Some of the black junk on the rocker panel is from previously putting them on)

Looks pretty good! How would the front look if it was a similar triangular shape like the rears? Meaning, it's a little wider at the bottom and thinner at the top. Also, how hard would it be to taper the top so that it ends flush with the body? Instead of jutting out? For both the rear and fronts. Just a suggestion. You could probably sell these pieces here if you make them, as I'm sure there would be some interest. Nice job.
