JRZ RS One or TC Kline DA

With the Apex group buy its made me a little hesitant on the TCK.

So, here's another dude trying to figure out what to get.

Going with the Apex group buy, will get me at least the RS One with a little extra money or push for the RS Two if it does get maximum discount which I am not banking on, or do what I initially wanted and go for TC Kline DA

Being in Canada makes me worry about rebuild on the JRZ, but TC Kline's konis are easily rebuildable by a lot of suspensions shops up here.

Does anyone actually have tried or had both?
I have had KW V3 on a different car and I did not like it
Car's a 06 Z4M.

Anyone's comments would be appreciated.

Selfishly, I would say buy the JRZs and get us to the highest discount!! but below are my thoughts. Hope it helps!

In a similar situation as you. Currently I track TcKline DA with 600/700 and camber plates. After 30+ track days in the past year, they are due for a rebuild. That said, I have jumped in on this same Group Buy and will be getting the JRZ RS TWO.

My personal decision comes down to overall quality, ability to fine-tune settings and having the best damper that fits within CCA prepared class rules (in the event I decide to race).

My feedback on TcKline is that they are decent for the money and certainly capable in a DE setting. However, the JRZ unit is many steps ahead of the TCK. For example, I consistently hear from JRZ users that every click is noticeable. I can say first hand that this is absolutely not the case with the Koni’s used by TCK, especially as they wear down.

It all really comes down to your goals. If you’re tracking the car and really want something that can be adjusted to your needs or just want the best quality system, JRZ is the way to go. If you’re on a budget and want a solid track capable kit, the TCK is tried and tested. Unless you’re tracking, you are perfectly fine with a One way and do not need to worry about D/A; set it and forget it IMHO

I had solid experience with TCK’s, only negative was the audible clicking noise from the rears. For the price you can’t beat their value.

I'm pledged for RS-Ones.. I don't think the TCK's will compare for the price... but what do I know..

My local supplier offered me KW Clubsports for less than both and it will be local, in the end despite my reservations about KW (my v3 experience has not been amazing although they do ride well), i am going with KW CS.

Not sure if you moved on the KW set yet but APEX just updated the group-buy lowering the minimum pledges needed for the full 20% discount. All we need are 4 more people to pledge. Might be worth while giving this another look as that is a significant discount regardless of your configuration.

Great post, I'm sure many here will appreciate the chance to jump on these if they have their heart set on some JRZ's at a discounted price. I have heard very good things about their quality and am sure you won't be disappointed. I would count brakes and suspension as a must-have upgrade for the Z4M.

I would say defiantly pass on the 1-way adjustable package as you are basically foregoing all of the benefits of having any adjustability. If you don't like how the manufacturer sets the bump to rebound damping ratio there is bugger all you can do about it which equates to 100% waste of investment and total buyer remorse. I have never regretted buying more than what I needed but I used to regret buying less than what was ideally needed.

If you were considering the RS PRO then you might as well go the whole hog and spring another $600 or so for the RS PRO 3.

If you miss out or decide these are not for you there are other custom race coilover manufacturers out there that offer similar packages at competitive prices.

Why do you say the 1-way would be 100% waste of investment? Are you suggesting that going from $1000 BC Racing coilovers (or any other inexpensive chinese brand) to a $3000 1-way JRZ unit won't be an upgrade at all? Trying to understand the logic here, especially since I don't see myself spending hours testing/tuning compression AND rebound when I just want to have fun at the limit at the track. It's hard enough to setup alignment, tire pressures, rebound, sway bars, aero, and for multiple tracks - to now add compression to the mix.

Surely there must be a benefit in the JRZ 1-way as is...

I am not singling out JRZ in particular but any brands one way offering (regardless of price) and many OEM 1-way systems coming out these days fall into this category, are floored in so much as the customer is stuck with what the manufacturer ‘thinks’ should be the right comp/rebound ratio and whether that is a move forward, backward or merely sideways from your existing set-up, you will not be able to judge until after they are installed. At least with 2-Way coilovers the ratio between the aforementioned parameters is infinitely adjustable to your liking.

I do know friends with 991 GT3’s that swapped out their OEM suspension for multi way adjustable coilovers not because there was anything wrong with the factory damper’s quality but because mainly they wanted the advantage of adjustability. Being able to set bump and rebound independently of each other is priceless. Just switching to sport or track mode or whatever Porsche is calling it these days left them wanting independent adjustability and willing to search for an aftermarket solution.

How much are we really talking about here at the end of the day in terms of cubic dollars? Looks like to be around $700 difference between the RS One and the RS TWO model. Now if you factor that $700 over the ownership lifetime that you anticipate having the vehicle for, depending on your expectations it doesn’t seem like too much of a deal breaker to just go for at least a 2-way setup right off the bat.

Many might be surprised at just how competent a suspension novice can get at tuning a multi-way adjustable coilover setup.

I do not disagree with ANILE8; however, my 2 cents is that additional adjustments are only going to be as good as the person tuning it. Also, future goals with the car need to be considered. For example, if doing TT or Club Racing, remote reservoirs can impact classing/points.

There are many racers across the board running 1 or 2-way units for purely simplicity purposes when they can easily bump up to 3+.

Assuming both units are properly tuned; a handmade premium unit (like the JRZ RS-ONE) is still going to be a better overall unit compared to a mass-produced multi-adjustable piece. The single adjustment factor just means that rebound and compression ratios are locked.
