Potholes from HELL

Hit the pot hole that leads to hell a few days ago and instantly felt a bad vibration. Had it in to the tire shop today and found out I bent 2 rims quite badly. Also found out a third has small bend too. Needless to say I have to buy all new wheels, it's a given I'm pretty ticked at the state highway system! Now I just have to hope there isn't any other damage like a spring break. Anything I should pay special attention to?
Rant over.

Wow that sucks, sorry to hear it. I once hit a pothole bad enough to bend a rim on my RX7, but that was the only damage. Needed an alignment afterwards.

Hi

I have had two bent wheels straightened for $100 each, on my 2006 coupe. One was pretty badly bent.

Same thing happened to me. The tire rods got damaged too. I hate potholes.

Wicked...geez!

OP, give the entire suspension a once over. It's doubtful anything happened to the chassis but front control arms, FCABs, rear camber arms, etc. could have been bent, cracked/damaged.

yes,... im really suprised to see them tear in this way. The bend is very normal and ive seen worse but for the bend to sheer away from the body of the rim indicates to me a strength issue.

I hit it doing 65, the sound was indescribable...tire never lost pressure, contacted apex and they offered a new wheel for a fraction of the cost provided I shipped that wheel over to them for "analysis". They were definitely super accommodating and shocked as well.

No unfortunately it's a super busy highway nearby, was glad I had enough time to safely pull over and inspect the damage...if it was a town road I would've snapped pics...besides nys doesn't have pothole damage reimbursement anymore

Our roadways in NY within 2 hrs of Manhattan are in horrible shape. Keeps me from driving the car at night and when I do drive I keep a good number of car-lengths behind so I have a fighting chance of avoiding the incoming threats.

Looks like "bad road" is operating at another level in NY and NJ in terms of roads. California has its fair share, like 680 from Concord to San Jose (potholes that can just about swallow cars). But most roads aren't that scary. I'll stop complaint about the odd rough road!

Sounds like both Apex and Bilstein both really came through.

Agreed I don’t drive my Z if know I have to take I95 or I87. Only way I’ll make my way to NJ is 287 over the Tappan Zee. And I avoid Queens at all costs lol.

On a semi-related note (patched potholes) following too closely behind supercars is now a danger. Was behind an Aventador this morning and his superfat/supersticky rubber was catching and releasing too much road debris for me to stay in the same lane behind him.

Ouch.

That looks painful. I just bought my Z4 on Saturday, and on the drive home I went over a huge pothole that was hidden by water, and I instantly thought I was going to have a flat or bent rim. Luckily enough no damage to any of the components.
