Windshield Washer....not washing...

So, at some point this fall, the windshield washing system decided to no longer live up to its name. I know there is fluid because I topped it off after noticing the washer fluid coming out of the nozzle was spare and a little frothy (like it does when low on washer fluid).

The wipers work fine when I actuate the windshield washing; it's just that no juice comes out of the nozzles. The nozzles do not appear plugged but I do not hear the familiar electronic buzzing of the pump so I'm thinking either the pump(s) are toast or it's a fuse. Admittedly, I have yet to check the latter since work has been kicking my butt.

1. Just wondering if anyone else has hit this maintenance inchstone yet and what the culprit was.
2. Separately, but what are the torque specs for the front firewall and rear undercarriage structural braces? I get a slight clunk driving over stuff and think they need to be snugged up but can't find the torque values (of course...now that I need them...).

TIA

The pumps are a routine failure item.
The seal between the pump impeller and motor fails and fluid gets into the motor and corrodes it.
There's a weep hole in the motor that usually does what weep holes do, so check for some fluid dribble.

The pumps are about 30 bucks and easy to replace.

I had this problem early in the summer. It was the filter in the bottom of the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The filter was completely clogged, cleaned it out and the system works perfectly.

I had to do this the other day. Pulled the pump straight up and to the side. The picked on the black grommet that holds the filter until it came free. Found it clogged with some black crap. Clean the filter, now good as new.

I had to do the pump and did the filter while I was there. Hint: don't fill the resevoir just before changing the pump -- it will all just spew out onto the ground.

Thanks, all. I ended up ordering a new pump yesterday morning before posting since it was fairly cheap at FCP Euro and I was already ordering some misc odds/ends for the X1 and Moupe. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the parts will arrive until next Monday so I guess I won't be working on things this weekend. So much for springing for 3 business day shipping, too...was hoping to get the parts on Friday.

Anyone have thoughts on those torque values? I always came across them when I didn't need them.

This was one of the easier fix.. i bought my pump off amazon prime for 7 or 8 over summer.. FCP euro has life time warranty.. if that pump fails, you can send it back for replacement

Does anyone have photos or a how to do guide to fix this issue. When I fill the water reservoir it holds the water until I use it once to clean the window and then it just all runs out. Really annoying when you need to use them and forget it has no water. Thanks

Windshield washer spray failure and pump replacement was covered extensively in this thread in the DIY forum (where it should be) from November 2013: https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthr...ht=washer+pump.

I searched and found the above thread and added my input in January 2017:
https://www.zpost.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=14
and again in April 2017:
https://www.zpost.com/forums/showpos...9&postcount=17

Photos and a complete DIY (see my notes on my method) are also in the first link.

Search is your friend...
