"On curvier roads, the Z4 takes more effort to drive as quickly as the Audi and the Porsche but returns less enjoyment."

They did say it looks good inside and out tho.

Yeah. That's pretty efficient for just over 300hp.

The new Z4 is actually pretty quick, the DCT 7 speed should be even faster than the 6 speed featured.

$75K for the Porsche, $67K for the Z. These cars are way over priced! At this point, I'd add a Z-51 option to the Vette and call it a day.

Garage List
At that price I'd be getting an Ariel Atom and just using it like a motorcycle

Any car can be quick. Making a car quick and rewarding to drive is something BMW stopped with the E8* series

Why? Because it's got one more gear?

The SMG 6 speed on the E46 M3 wasn't any quicker to 60 than the manual 6 speed even with launch control. Oh wait, they're both 6 speeds. I see ow the math works, 7 speed must be faster. My bad.

I can guaranteed that you will not see either BMW published numbers or magazine test data that shows the DCT 7 speed is faster to either 60 or quarter mile than the 6 speed.

M3 DCT is generally a draw with 6MT.

dual clutch > single clutch.

seemless gearshift. personally i chose manual transmission, but the days of being better than a computer as far as fast precise shifts are over.

keep in mind these times aren't always repeat-able even with the same car, and magazines often "correct" numbers due to weather conditions

As you can see by the above posts, DCT is totally different than SMG, the extra gear at the top allows a lower first gear than the manual 6 cog, thus slightly quicker 0-60 times. Biggest difference to me is that DCT owners will easily do consistent 0-60 times while we who are manually rowing and dropping the clutch will get a good 0-60 as frequently as our talent as drivers allow.
F-1 has gone to totally automated gearboxes precisely because it eliminates driver error and makes for a consistently faster car, regardless of the number of gears. I love my manual gearbox, but having driven a DCT equipped M3 I can tell you that is the best automated manual I have ever driven, the car ain't too bad either!
