lol... reminds me of school days.

Maybe I'm the crazy one... I always get at least 360 on my si coupe (more typically 370-385 in mixed local/freeway/canyon driving, and about 400-425 when only freeway cruising).

This went down about 20 miles per tank when I had the ECU reprogrammed. 10 extra hp reduced the typical mileage from 28 to 27 - a fair trade.

LOL!!! this is actually great news!! don't feel silly for this; I've occasionally pressed the limit of the "low gas" light. Its good to know that your car is in perfect working order! You've also done a good service for the rest of us who might be tempted to press the limit and find ourselves in a similar situation with a dead car, but perhaps in a nasty or remote area!!

Thanks for being so forthcoming! Good information to know!!!

Happy Friday!!!

Gintani/OE Engineering in Van Nuys, CA. Lots of discussion of this on our sister E90Post forum.

Moderately worthwhile at $400-500 (not sure exactly what they're charging now). Enough of a difference to feel, but not nearly enough to make the car feel like an M. If your buddy really wants hp it probably makes a lot more sense to trade up to a Z4M than spend a bunch on mods to the N52.

For a while the BMW CCA magazine Roundel had a policy that they would publish all letters no matter how stupid. I don't know if they still do that. Anyway some years ago a woman sent in a scathing letter about how her trip computer said she still had 6 miles to go to empty and she ran out of gas. Of course the letter only made her look like a fool. This post is about in the same category.

I don't think Smug/Dick responses are productive. Just an FYI.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally I think that leaving your car at the dealer for 4 days and whining about it on a public forum because you ran out of gas is pretty stupid. Especially when the individual threatens to file a complaint with the NHTSA and such. That makes him look pretty idiotic.

I've nearly ran out of gas w/o my wallet once...the thought of panhandling out of my z4m in a not so good city had me cringing

on a side note, is our fuel pump inside the tank? if so running on low fuel will cause it to overheat since it relies on the gas as a coolant...

OMG. HAHA. I had the same thought the first week I bought the car. I thought, man, if I ever run out of gas, I'm screwed. Nobody is gonna take pity on a a guy who drives a M. They will just point and laugh.

My low fuel comes on at precisely 100KM (62 miles) to go regardless of how much fuel is left/indicated.

Well, next Saturday actually. We have a great drive planned, but it is a bit far for you to travel, as it starts just south of Canton, Ohio.

This woman, a nurse, is a total hoot. Her husband (a VERY BIG GUY) is a Cisco geek who totally puts up with her antics. He drives and she is the life of the party at every stop. Great gal.

It's a reflash of the ECU in the car. I'm sure it does technically void the warranty, but OE also sells a module that lets you flash the car back to stock if you ever need to bring it in - so they'd never know. I got mine done at 49,700 miles so it didn't really matter to me.
