That looks like a M Coupe. I see them around Bay Area here and there. There has to be more than 3 within 100 miles radius.

Z3 Coupe non-M, you can slightly make out the chrome hatch trim and bumper mounted license plate in one of the frames, specific to the non-M.

If you look at that "closet" thing he hits - you can see there was equipment in there. Does not take a lot of equipment to add up fast! Especially if it was wired.plumbed to stuff inside that got drug around too. Hell you can hit a deer and look like hardly any damage and come back with a $5,000 bill!
