Question Whine when Z4 is unlocked.

I looked to see if this was asked about in a previous thread, but couldn't find anything.

In any case, when I open the door or trunk of my Z4 I hear a whine from the car for a few seconds. What is that? Fuel pump or something?

Yeah I think it's either fuel pump, preparing the car for a startup, or just the elctrical system coming back online (out of hibernate), or perhaps both

Do you have navigation?

I noticed this in my M, which has navigation. I never noticed it in my 3.0si coupe.

It does have navigation. However the whine sounds electro/mechanical and is fairly loud. I don't think the noise eminates from the enterior.

Bingo. SMG control unit pre-charges and pre-pumps the hydraulics when you open the door.

Thanks very much. That makes sense. I've owned the car for a number of years and everytime I heard that I wondered . . .
