My letter arrived today too. Kinda vague about a timeline for the fix (although appreciated the comments concerning steps to follow if one sees smoke LOL).

I was at the local dealer a week ago and asked about when they would start seeing replacement parts. The service manager indicated not before February at a minimum.

My wife's 2011 335is Coupe was affected by the HVAC wiring issue. She got the letter last year and it was finally resolved in May when she had all six injectors and spark plugs replaced under the extended warranty just one day short of the warranty expiration.

Got a new recall letter today (4-11-22). If yours is an '06-'08 Z4 (N52), the PCV heater fix (from the first recall) didn't work and the remedy is currently unavailable. Paraphrasing from the letter...The remedy is being developed but until then, if you see or smell smoke (or a plastic burning odor), pull over and get out of the car. Another letter will be sent when the fix is available. Additional affected models are certain '06-'13 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4, X3, and X5 vehicles.

Yikes... I did the recall a while ago and thought it was safe. In the original letter they even stated it can melt and catch on fire supposedly even when the car is just standing. I did not get the new letter yet though. Is there a new recall # associated with this?

I had this fixed 2 years ago in my 2011 128i, but the letter I got yesterday indicates the first fix needs to be fixed again. Also, the needed parts aren’t available yet. BMW will send another letter when parts available and Service can be scheduled. Last time it took 3 months between letter 1 and 2.

Disconnected the battery. Thought it was safe since they replaced it last time but I guess not. Going to give the dealer a call tomorrow.

Anybody happen to know how dealers tend to go about this? The remedy says they would just replace the valve itself but i'm always seeing posts about people getting an all new PCV system and sometimes even valve cover. Not sure if that's the dealers call or how that works. In any case, looks like i'll be swapping cars early this year.

When mine was done they basically removed the alternator to open up access to the part which is right under the intake manifold and they just swap it from there. So nothing else was replaced but the pcv heater element.

BMW needs to address this for Canadian owners too. I’m decidedly unhappy that some jackass corporate lawyer is happy to have my house at risk of burning down.

Did you yank stuff off to get to the plug or able to go from over the intake with long needle nose to get to the plug connector?

Some pics of them melted https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112273
