Phone GPS problems in Coupe
I’ve searched forum without luck, and based on the lack of conversation I can only assume my problem is a one off; nevertheless:
My recently purchased Z4M Coupe has no navigation unit (thankfully), but as a result I’m using Waze on my phone. While in the Z4M, it has a problem locking into the GPS of the phone. When I’m in other automobiles, my phone doesn’t have this problem. Any guesses as to why this is?

Possibly a metallic tint on the windows? My phone works fine with any of the GPS programs in my coupe (iPhone XS).

I've had the same issues. Last year it got really bad and my phone wouldn't pick up GPS either. I've had the same tint on the car for probably 10 years ... I can't imagine what changed. I kind of thought maybe the type of signal changed.

Weird if it's not metallic tint.
I've a regular tint and iPhone8 works perfectly fine in my M coupe. What's the position of the phone in the car. My phone is mounted next to ash trey below blower vent knob. |

I’d have to guess tint, too...
I’ve used several iPhones (currently on XR) with two different types of tint (ceramic, then non-ceramic). No issues. Phone is mounted on the dash, slightly above and to the right of the shifter. |

I’ve tried mounted on the windshield to left of steering wheel or in center as well as in a CD slot mount. Same problems each spot. Same problem in multiple different days and only in Z4. Never a signal lock problem in any other vehicle. It’s only a gps problem. I’m getting good cell signal and streamed music all the way from Texas to North Carolina.
What makes it even more peculiar is I had To resort to using my iPad Pro sitting on the passenger seat as backup for navigation and it locked in just fine.

Does rolling the windows all the way down have an effect on the signal? That should eliminate the possibility of the tints interfering

just the other day I had to get out of my coupe and walk 10 feet away to get my phone gps to register... (the car gps thinks I'm on the other end of the state...)
