An iphone pairing question

Didn't have this mysterious phone connection thingamajig available in my 03 that now is wondrous like that red candy like button that you just have to press to find out what it does in my 07 coupe.

So I'm having issues trying to pair my iphone se2020 to it. When I enter the pass code after Bluetooth finds it on my phone its giving me the car is not ready error message. I'm following the directions in the owners manual key is in pos 1 and clearly my phones finding the car, so now what, any ideas?

I think I tried a couple dozen times before my iPhone finally synced. I don't try anymore.

ive also had issues with this and dont have a resolution. hoping someone can help here

My iPhone12 connects error free to my 07 M coupe. I wonder if the older models are incompatible? Bluebus would be a fix
