z4 computer reset

2003 z4 2.5. I replaced the battery. Everything seems normal. They tell me that I need to have the computer reset. Is that necessary?

No…… does not apply to Z4's.

No reset required for the electronics. You do need to reset clock and redo the window auto raise. (anti pinch). Both are simple things that you can do yourself.

Just curious. Who is "They"?

Sounds like a shop trying to take your money. Only BMWs with an Intelligent Battery Sensor require notification to the ECU that a new battery was installed. IFAIK no E46 chassis has an IBS.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
