Z4 Maintenance Information
I'm trying to put together a table of information related to maintenance on the Z4's. For the DIYers. But I'm pulling a few blanks and would appreciate any input. The information I have so far is either from the manuals/inspection sheets/TIS or various posts on this and the other forums.

Is everyone forgetting power steering fluid? I've been using a turkey baster and Mobil 1 synthetic ATF at 30k intervals.

Engine Oil suggested interval I'd say 7.5k. It lines up really well with the regular schedule, it's twice as often as BMW recommends, and most oil analysis I've seen showed that it would be fine. I'll see if I can dig up some links.

Heh, this is cool, I was naive and didn't factor the track guys will be exchanging fluids more regularly, ideally I was just looking for factory recommended intervals. I guess just expected track guys to already be on top of their own needs But having that info is great.

Once this is complete...this should be a sticky for everyone to have quick access to it.
Now if someone would post the same for the Z4 2.5, 3.0i and 3.0si

This is great. Let's make this a sticky then hang the first person to ask "What fluids and how much?" Just like I want to scratch my eyes out when a newbie asks if the Z4 is a good car to buy.
If I'm going to rant I'll contribute. Here's what I've compiled for my 3.0si N52 engine. Same for the 3.0 if it's an N52 (2006 and later I think). Not sure about the 2.5. ---------------------------- OEM Spark plug = 12120032138 Bosch Spark Plug FR7NPP332 (cheaper to buy Bosch plugs then BMW OEM part number for exact same plug) Oil: OEM Oil 07510017866 = 6.9 quarts (safe to use 7.0) Oil options = Mobil1 0w-40 Full Synthetic Euro Spec OEM Oil filter = 11427541827 (comes with drain plug crush washer and two filter housing o-rings making it cheaper than buying filter, washer and orings separately) BMW Coolant 82141467704 = 9.3 quarts Link to DIY here. Need about 5 gallons fresh water and 1.5 gallons of BMW coolant (Mixes with water 50/50) 64316915764 Charcoal Cabin Filter 13717542545 Engine Air Filter 61610154440 Wiper Blade Refill (cut to size) Edit: I'm adding this info on ATF. I know there's a huge debate on "lifetime" fluids and such, but this is what I did. ZF Automatic Transmission OEM ATF Fluid = ? ATF Fluid Options = Valvolene MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF = Drain and refill ~8 quarts OEM ATF filter and plastic pan = 24117536387 Interval = BMW says 100k then drain and replace filter. I drained and refilled at 25k and plan on draining/refilling WITH filter change at 50k. Might I suggest links to BavAuto and Tisher? You have to compare prices between the two. BavAuto wins if you meet their $150 free shipping minimum. Last edited by santov; 05-29-2011 at 01:03 AM.. Reason: Added ATF info |

Not sure if I should amend the non M models to the original post, or start a thread per each. Also wasn't sure about the policy with link posting, I know on the 'other' bmw forum, they have sponsors, and it could be a source of conflict.
I think probably best to rename this topic, not M specific, and will amend your info to it |

Oh on Brake Fluid I heard a great idea:
Alternate between ATE Super Blue and Super Gold so when you start to see the "new" color you'll know you've purged the old stuff. I haven't done that since I'm still in warranty and don't want to introduce any warranty issues with aftermarket fluids. But plan on switching to this method post-warranty. In the meantime I just use Valvolene DOT 4 full synthetic. It's very clear in color so still easy to identify when old fluid is purged. |

My bad... I had ATF on the brain. The DOT4 I got at Kragens was Prestone. I like it since it looks clear like water making it ready to see when the fresh fluid is pumped out.

Amsoil 5w30 Manual Syncromesh
Amsoil 75w90 MTF these will work in our transmissions? Amsoil is the best out there hands down but I wasn't aware they made anything for our cars. Has anybody ever tried either of them? |

Bumping this thread up because:
1) I found it very useful 2) Wondering if any additional parts are needed for the differential oil change other than the fluid (washers, etc.). Getting ready to perform diff and tranny fluid changes as I'm almost at 30K miles. Thanks!
