We'll have to trying a few more variations. I wouldn't be happy with a lights out indicator.

The solution to a problem that didn't exist

Stay tuned.
I rummaged around in the parts bin and built a buffer circuit using an N-channel FET and a relay. Would have been more elegant if I had some P-channel FETs instead of the relay, but I'm fresh out.
The gate impedance is 10 kΩ, so the bulb monitor won't see it.
Just need a source of unmonitored B+. Probably just go for the battery, since it's right there in the trunk.

Circuit is on burn-in on my bench while I go cut the grass.

And Oh: I was having second thoughts anyway about doubling the load on each output of the lighting module.

That is something I did not think about.
Your using the gate as the control?

Maybe just snip the panic wire.

Take 2

Thought about making it think I was in constant panic braking, but wasn't sure where the G sensor was and was worried it might open a different can of worms.

This seems to be working. Damn those things are BRIGHT!!

Unfortunately I am not educated enough in this area to understand your diagram.

Are the lights *too* bright as to look awkward? Can you try to capture an image?

Were did you get that schematic? It does not jive with my V12 WDS, brake lights for cars as of 01 2006.

Here is what I have:

You mean the schematic from the WDS in post #19, which I think matches and is also from V12, or the schematic I drew in post #27?

As for bright, I had the car in my garage and was standing 1/2 way down my sloped driveway, so I was closer to eye level than a following driver would be.
They're noticeably brighter than the normal ones, which at eye level are also pretty bright.
Couldn't get a picture that looked like anything more than a red explosion.

Update: Just picked my Son up from Church, which was the trip that set off the bulb warning on my first attempt. Lots of sitting at lights with brake on. No bulb warning.
When we got home I had him jump out and see if they were still working. I hit the brake and he yelled "AH! DEATH RAY!!". Yep. Still working.

I'm going to bet it will throw a bulb warning during an actual panic stop. The bulbs are already lit, so the load on the lighting module will be at best 1/2 nominal. Can't test that now as I just noticed one of my front tires is down to the cord. Emergency new set of skins going on tomorrow.

Confirmed. I just missed a light today and had to get on the brakes somewhat briskly. Apparently enough that it would have lit the second lights had they not already been lit. Got a bulb warning until I shut the car off and started back up.
