Rod Bearings changed - interesting

So had the rod bearing changed last week, I ended going with WPC coated with APR bolts. But some interesting results with the old bearings, as you can see from the photo one bearing is totally shot. I'll post the Blackstone lab results once I get them back. Now what's puzzling me is casting numbers;

6 stamped 605
4 stamped 606
2 stamped 602

I would have thought that you'd have 2 casting number sets. The 602 is really worn down, any ideas what these numbers mean and why there would be a mismatched set?

Coupe had 109500km and the really bad bearing was on cylinder #2.

Cyclops,
Wowie!

I know the Blackstone report will show miles, etc....what was the mileage at the bearing change and what were the previous Blackstone reports showing leading to the change? Not asking for specific data, just your overall comments.

Additionally, curious about your choice to install aftermarket bearings and bolts vs OEM.

WPC are OE bearings, not aftermarket. It just OE bearings getting a micro shot peening treatment. You can buy OE bearings and get it treated or buy them already treated.

The coupe had 109500KM (68040 Miles). As XMetal said these were OE Bearings with the WPC coating. I did a poll and seemed that was what people were going with, you can see the results of the poll here. I was really considering the Vac bearing as per my mechanic but in the end I just went with the herd.

Interesting thought, I'd assume the engines would have been made several months prior to the car. My coupe has a production date of 07/07/2007

My production date is March 20, 2008.

Did you get a chance to look at your new bearings? What's printed on them?

Does anyone know who the OEM is?
I don't recognize that logo.
The only thing I can imagine is that CL stands for Clevite (from the Mahle group), but Clevite's logo looks nothing like it and I don't see it on examples of Clevite or Mahle bearings.
Also BMW doesn't only do business with the Mahle group; the OEM rodbearings in the contemporary M54 engine are from Glyco.
There's also a brand called ACL (also CL in the name), but again, they use a completely different logo (and stamp their bearings differently)

Are there markings on the other side of the bearing?

i think the CL designation is Copper/lead. as you said, the Clevite logo is completely different.

Aren't all clevite bearings stamped in English? eg: the CB designation is Conrod Bearing (thats English).

I do wonder about the diamond shape too, i wonder what that's about, i looked last night for the meaning of that, but came up absolutely blank.

How do you know it's a clevite bearing?
Clevite lets numbers correspond with materials, not letters.
This is certainly not clevite's usual numbering system imho.

So I'm curious. I was under the impression that the rod bearing issue was just for early model S54s (2001/2002) and that the problem was fixed after that. Is this still a continuing issue, even in 2006-2008 model years?
