Ive had one for over 2 years, best one available. Steel is better long term due to its fatigue resistance over aluminum. You wont regret the purchase!

Sorry guys, just a little busy past few days. GB list has been updated, contacting Mason to sort the details now that its clear we have enough interest. When all is confirmed I'll get something going in the Classifieds section & notify everyone on the list.

Check out the first photo posted by the OP. This SB is installed over a VF Engineering Supercharger. Not sure on all models but it looks like it fits that manufacturer.

Lots of good info and pictures of the bar in this thread. Looks to be plenty of clearance. Also hoping they learned from the last group buy and resolved the manufacturing/fitment issues that was discussed - although OP mentioned Mason may require measurements of our cars so that should address that.

Also interested in this bar. Please add me to the list. Not sure yet whether aluminum or steel. Had their aluminum bar on my E36 M3 racecar. High quality product. Not sure the criticism on removal for access. No big deal to me.

Good point! I would be concerned, but it looks like Rogue is still manufacturing & selling their brace for the E46 M3 with the same design. If there were an inherent flaw, I'd imagine it would affect those, as well. If I had to guess, the reason they ceased production on the Z4M bars is that there are actually quite a few intricacies to considered to ensure a proper fit. Combine this with a low number of overall sales and mass production with varying tolerances and it's a recipe for a likely discontinued product.

I agree Vanne! Added to the serious interest list

Mason lists the steel bar @ 6.0 lbs & aluminum bar @ 3.5 lbs. If you're interested I can see if he would accept orders for the alum with same discount as well, so long as we have min 6 orders in total. The more I think about it, the more I'd be tempted to go aluminum because it's not a large weight different but it is a little more exclusive and, err, ultimate. Go big or go home I suppose

Here is a link to the product page - can't believe I didn't include this -> http://www.masonengineering.net/Subpages/Z4.htm
The folks at Strong-Strut will always be around to service your need for a strut brace. There are NO moving joints in the Strong-Strut although some
readers incorrectly put that item in the "flex joint." Category. Strong-Struts are guaranteed for life and all made in the USA unlike a large number of competitors. http://www.strong-strut.com

Interested in an aluminum or steel one, maybe they can just gloss clear over the raw unit to allow the welds to be visible!

Hi all, some unfortunate news

Mason engineering will only move forward with this if I personally purchase all the bars directly, then distribute them out. Furthermore, regardless of qty, 10% is the max discount available due to these bars being a low margin item for him.

He cited fabrication, packaging, and shipping as his reasoning for not being able to offer direct sales/discounts, regardless of order quantity. My reasoning for not simply taking payment from different forum users and purchasing in bulk from him are:

-I am not set up to ship strut bars - personally sourcing packaging materials, packaging, etc. is a bit too much.

-While I have total faith in his product, I don't have the ability to properly address concerns if fitment or quality were an issue for anyone. This would ultimately make me personally the financially liable party for someone else's product.

-Most importantly, I don't personally have a business license thus would need to pay CA sales tax of 8-10% on the entire purchase for many items ultimately shipping out of state. This would effectively bring the price back to normal retail for anyone outside of California. This defeats the idea of a GB for most and wouldn't be worth the work on my behalf.

If I had a parts shop and/or infrastructure to do this, I definitely would. When I had initially spoke to him and set up this thread I really thought there would be a way to work this out. Even with double the asking quantity I couldn't get this through and at this point it sounds like he's only interested in taking single retail orders direct from his site. Still looks like a great product and he thanked me for our interest, but I just wish this could have worked. Sorry to get some hopes up, I only had the best intentions with this one!

It sounds like he doesn't really want (need) the business.
Thanks for trying Matt

I try to give people the benefit of doubt but this is really what it felt like.

That said, I'm still in talks with him and it seems we may be able to run this GB properly after all for both Steel & Aluminum, discount ranging 10-15% and shipping direct from Mason. Not sure if he rethought things or read this thread a little closer, but seems it will happen. Will update this thread and start new one in classifieds when we're locked and loaded. Hope to see you on board!

You and me both! I'm quite excited to see this group buy pull through. Hoping to have a brace for when I pull the car out of storage.

Thanks again for putting the work in to organize this!

Nevermind

After researching this further and looking at the data from Bimmerworld, I would say every STB on the market is snake oil. They were only able to achieve .8mm of deflection in a race car. There's that much flex in every STB I've seen on the market. Unless the STB mounts where you can pretension the bar, it's worthless. The three 13mm nuts holding the mount under compression (rather than shear) are not going to be strong enough to tame a 3,000 lb car pulling 1.25 g's, and that's if the bar itself were straight. A bent bar will flex until it's straight and under proper tension.

I think that with the additional stiffness of the E86, I'm sure the deflection will even be less than the Spec E46 car used in the test.

No Mason bar for me, thank you...

It's always a matter of a small difference. You gain a bit from here and a bit from there. You gain 8% from the STB and 8% from your suspension. You gain 8% from your sway bar mod and 8% from wing and front splitter. At the end it all adds up.

I respect your choice however.

I am still in for the Alu one.

Cheers

Hey All!

Sorry, had a few month hiatus from the boards (real life got a little busy) but I'm back and will make this happen. Details to follow in the next few days :]
