Boeing Starliner launch scrubbed 6 May 2024

Disappointing and not entirely unexpected. I'm a moderately active follower of space exploration and was looking forward to a new crewed vehicle launch.

Boeing can't get out of its own way lately in the aviation world, and the lack of performance seems also to be present in its space operations, unfortunately.

At least they didn't ignore the problem and push for a launch anyway. Scary prospect flying into space with Boeing's name on the vessel.

I was sitting at a bar in Port Canaveral tonight hoping to see it go. Glad they followed protocol and scrubbed it though. We did see the Falcon 9 launch earlier in the day. That was my first in person launch. Super cool.
Random recommendation: if you ever want to sit at a wonderful tiki bar and watch a launch, check out Gator's Port Side.

That is a used Falcon Booster in the foreground with the rocket launching to the left

5/Starliner CFT: Unexpected behavior of an oxygen relief valve in the Atlas 5's Centaur upper stage, described as a "chattering," has prompted a scrub of this evening's launch; it's not yet clear when another launch try will be attempted; we’ll pass along updates as soon as more information is available

If the capsule says Boeing, you know it ain't going!

Given the follies of the early uncrewed test winding up in the wrong orbit and almost being lost on re-entry, they need to be super-cautious to not add Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams' names onto the memorial wall at Kennedy Space Center.....

I know Boeing are having a hard time doing anything right at the moment but kind of ironic that this launch gets scrubbed due to a Centaur issue, it has an amazing reliability record.

From what I just read, the Centaur valve problem is a known issue with the design. For satellite launches, they just order it to cycle and it stops chattering. Since this is the first ever crewed launch on an Atlas/Centaur, they did not want to cycle the valve with the crew on board.
