Rick & Brian,

I have a good original pair of side covers, however I am thinking hard about getting your set as well. You may want to start a new side cover interest thread in the forum.

Thanks

Yeah Skyer makes them. Don't you think $250 is outrageously expensive for two small cosmetic pieces of plastic?

Honestly, absolutely not... I got in on the first batch from Skyer and the fit is excellent, the storage bag was a nice surprise, and they really REALLY finish the look by covering up all the mechanical bits in that giant hole.

I also didn't expect them to be as big as they are.

Cool. Glad you're happy with them. I personally can't see spending that much for a set.

Thumbs up E85 Soft Top Side Covers

New Remodeled Side Covers, by BavarianBunker, appear to be well designed and look great. The latch feature is a great improvement.

The Problem, with the New Remodeled Side Covers, is they will not work with the E85 hard top. The redesign of the front cover blocks out the female bayonet lock in the body. The New Remodeled Side Covers should either eliminate the front notch and match the body line, for a finished look, or use the OEM pointed design on the front to allow hard top use. The outside covers could be painted to match the Z4's color.

With the hard top installed there is a void between the seats and body, exposing the soft top frame. Porsche, Audi, Mercedes-Benz cabriolets have automatic painted panels that cover the soft top frame. BMW took a cheap way out, negatively impacting the Z4 roadster's finished appearance.

Paying $400 for OEM covers, prone to break easily, is not cost effective, considering the trade-in value of the E85 is down to $2000. A good hard top is almost worth half the cost of the vehicle. Interior hard top covers still go for under $200 on eBay and are harder to find than the outside soft top covers.

Inserts may be found on ebay

Glad to see interest in these inserts. Posted a couple of years back asking if anyone had some and got some grief for the question. Just found a pair on ebay for a reasonable amount; looking forward to an improved look with my top down here in Colorado.
