Z4 M Stock mufflers

Anyone in the DMV area with Z4 M with stock mufflers care to meet for coffee? I'll buy. I'd like to hear the stock exhaust in person. My Z4 M came with Stromung cans and thinking about going back to stock setup. Thanks

Don't do it unless you'd like your Z4M to sound like Grandma's 70's Nova, brand new, with no rust perfs in the exhaust!!!

I have the Stromung cans on my Z4MC and it was the first mod I did to the car. Never looked back and have no regrets....

I drove with the stock mufflers for several years before switching to Stromung mufflers, keeping the rest of the system stock. The stock mufflers have to be some of the quietest ///M mufflers I've ever heard, maybe it's was intentional to hear that high reving motor sing

I find the Stromung a nice balance of a little deeper without being loud or droning, but wake up at WOT. There's a slight resonance at ~2100 rpm with light throttle, but to me, that's just a reminder the rpm is too low for the current gear.

I'd never think of going back to stock and I hate loud exhausts... Maybe they sound a little different in a coupe than a vert?
BTW, I'm also in the DMV, but that doesn't help

Same for my Z4 MR. The Stromung mufflers sound great and I've had lots of compliments on the sound! I installed them because I could barely hear the engine with the stock mufflers. Must be one of the least aggressive mufflers BMW has ever put on a car, doesn't fit the Z4 M character at all.

Same exact comments as everyone else about my Stromungs. If all you want to hear is mechanical engine noise, then switch to the stock cans.

Thanks all for the comments. I'm still interested in hearing the stock mufflers. The Stromungs really open up above 4K and the S54 sounds awesome. They are very quiet when not under load. Between 1500 and 2100 (or so) they can drone a bit if under load. I do like the subtle pops/gurgles that happens when letting off the accelerator. Not too loud or annoying like a lot of riced out cars out there.

I've read the stock mufflers have a 'raspy' sound. Thought I might like that better than the deep drone I get at lower RPMs.

In terms of exhaust, in my case, my preferred setup was SS X-Pipe with Stock mufflers and Euro Headers and DKF section 1 with 200 cell cats

It was a bit deeper and refined, the rasp would never be heard in the cabin, and you could hear the CSL box singing the loudest. If I had kept the SS X pipe I would remove the Remus and put the OE cans back on.

Sent you a PM. Located in northern Virginia, exhaust is stock, and have been looking for someone with stromung to hear it. Let me know if you still have interest in grabbing a coffee!

Yes coffee would be great. Sunday morning is good. Perhaps we could meet at the Dulles C&C.

Never been to that meet but down to check it out. Looks like it's 7-9am? Don't think I can be there until closer to 8:30 but hope to see you there!

So how did it go? I have Remus cans and they are so much nicer than the stock exhaust. No raspiness at all with stock cans, just too quiet. Raspiness was more of an issue on the M3 version.

Yeah - I was surprised at how quiet the stock exhaust is. No raspiness as you said. I've decided to keep the Stromung cans on it. They give a much deeper tone and are not too loud. They drone a little under load/low RPMs but it's tolerable.

Big shout out to Jon for meeting up with me. He has a beautiful Z4MR.

Great meeting you, Tom! Agree with the prior comments that the rasp is much more prominent on the E46 m3 than the z4m (I used to have an e46 and the contrast was stark). Debating making the move to stromung as stock is almost all intake noise, but have a few other car-related purchases ahead of it in line.

I wish the S54 had better exhaust sound. It really sounds ricey. I am leaning towards putting the stock mufflers back on

I should receive my Stromung mufflers Friday and will get them installed ASAP. I took a 4 hour country drive on some nice twisty roads and all I could think about was how I could barely hear the exhaust even with the top down. I'd like to hear the intake more so I might look into a CAI.

I installed the Stromung mufflers yesterday. Great combination of low rumble at idle, not to loud under normal acceleration, and really come to life under full throttle. Exactly what I was wanting. Thanks for the input everyone.

So far I've installed Stromung exhaust, Continental tires, two cup holders, and a Bluetooth adapter.

Still researching a CAI. Any additional suggestions?

Thanks, Kevin

It's hard to beat the performance of the stock intake.
