Will the SMG be up to the task?

Internally the SMG is identical to the manual box gearwise and clutchwise.
So on that point there is no problem. However I don't know how much clutch slip the SMG uses when shifting (but it always makes sense to lift the throttle when shifting )

Already installed?
For safe measure you can use the e46 330i clutch disc. Thats 240mm instead of the OEM Z4 3.0i 228mm disc.

works like a charm as far as I know z4 3.0i SMG might have 240 clutch, but my car originally was a 2.5i so it had 228mm |

Gonna be a tough kit to find. I bought the last new one from ESS in the spring. There was a Michigan car that had the kit. You'd almost be best to find a whole car with the kit installed.

At this point I'm ready to wait for as long as it takes, all other components are upgraded (BMW performance BBK from 135i, new roof fabric, repainted body, M hood and M bumpers, rest headlights and taillights, M seats, KW var3 suspension, M-factory LSD, revised SMG). Engine is the last thing that needs a proper upgrade )) |

As much as I love my kit...for the budge an LS swap should be in consideration and now with the explosion of technology an electric motor conversion could also be worth looking into.
