US Spec Car with Fog Switch
Hey guys. Long time no talk! Been a helluva year for me so far. Long story short; I'm living in the UK now and need to pass their MOT inspection. One of which is the rear fog has to work. Having a US spec car that doesn't come with the switch with the fog button. Upon way too much research I think I've thoroughly confused myself. I've found the part number I think I need and all that good stuff, but am having trouble finding the right switch. The stealership wants to charge almost £400 (~$600) just for the switch, so obviously I'm trying to find the right switch at less of a cost.
The switch in question is on the bottom of this picture The guy at the shop says he can do whatever coding needs done I just need the damn switch! lol The stealership quoted me PN 61319146284, Google tells me it's PN 61319146292. I've tried looking ebay and tischer, I've emailed ECS and they keep quoting me the switch without the fog button. I just want to drive my baby again! (CALLING ALL BEEDUBS)

I had ordered a European light switch for my E83 when I had it and there are two to choose from as above with the E85. The difference between the two is if you have halogen or Xenon. Which is which above? No clue. I ordered the Xenon version for my E83 as that switch was much cheaper and it work with my halogen headlights. Good luck.
Steve Oh BTW, if it works as it did on my X3, you will not need to do any programming, it just works. Last edited by ShakyDog; 03-25-2015 at 09:20 AM.. |

You need to go to realoem.com or bmwfans.info and be looking at parts for Euro spec cars. Here's the selections for headlight switches for Euro spec from bmwfans....

Splicing a wire is an unnecessarily complicated way of doing things. Popping in a switch and coding the car out is less of a headache and a cleaner installation. The correct part number for a US Spec vehicle w/ fog's, xenon and rain sensor is 61319146290.
The easiest way to find the correct part number is to use BMW ASAP portal or ETK.cc with a US Spec VIN. Grab a VIN from Autotrader that matches your model year and go to town. If you ever need a UK VIN, it's as simple as a Google search. ie: LK55136 --Kyle Last edited by onthe3rdday; 04-26-2015 at 02:45 PM.. |

I just had to do the same thing to my Z4MR which I took with me to Paris from Boston. The local BMW dealership was useless, so I had an independent BMW specialist do all the work. All you need to do is replace the control module and reprogram. The new module P/N ends in 284 and cost me about 250 euros, but it could be different for the UK vs rest of Europe.... As far as I know the module also stores the car's mileage, so go to someone who knows what they're doing, or there might be other problems down the road. You might also need to reprogram the front lights, disable the bumper lights, etc...
