Radio Code
Anyone have access to the radio codes for a given serial number.
I have bought another hi fi amp , top hi fi amp and extra head unit. Continuity tested all connections from the amp plug in trunk forward to each speaker and to the HU. Both fuses are good. Still no sound. Found out recently I need a code entered into the head unit anytime power is disconnected or you change out any of the components. Only other thing to check would be the "IBUS"??? which I believe is the coaxial looking connection on the back of the HU which also shows up in the trunk which plugs into the back of the amp. Help please!!!!!!!!! Thanks |

Screen does not say code or wait.
Assumed I needed a code but after reading the posts I saw again all the vehicles are pre 2002. I am stumped as to what can be wrong. My thoughts now are that the amp isn't being turned on but there is no indicator light to say if its on or not. That coaxial looking lead on the back is actually the antenna. Having said that which is the trigger wire for the amp? Electronics are not my strength obviously Help Please. Below is the post I remembered seeing.
As a beside from that I decided to check the pinouts on the amp connector and found I do not have power at what is called pin #5 type E terminal 30 Fuse F102. This info is taken from "Shipkillers' site.........where is this fuse...? Soooooo does the radio need to be coded to the amp seeing as they are both not original to the car? Quoted from another forum It's FIXED THE SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION - I hope this will help anyone else who runs into the same problem. As you know from the original post, the Business CD/Radio part of the premium audio system in my 2004 Z4 3.0i worked as it should, but no sound was comming out of the speakers. After trying a local electronics repair business, I ended up going to the local BMW Dealer for an 'official' diagnosis. The amp was bad and needed to be replaced. I was quoted ~$1500.00 for the repair. I finally found a BMW parts place on the web. They sold me a new amp for $907 plus shipping. I replaced the amp, still no sound. I called them back to find out if the radio and amp needed a 'pair code.' I was told no. I went back to the local BMW dealer. Yes, the radio and amp needed to be coded. There is now sound. |

yes... coding/clearing is a must for almost all electronics in these cars.

a "radio code" is a 5 digit number used in older BMW's. this term is invalid for all z4's.
"coding", or "programming", is reserved for BMW dealers and their access to BMW AG servers. tools like ISIS, ISTA, GT1, etc... are rarely found outside of an actual dealer. these are used when replacing nearly all electronic modules - DME, BCM, LCM, SIM, RAD2, CCC, CIC, amp, nav module, etc... "clearing" is used to describe wiping error codes stored in either the BCM or the DME by using a handheld tester. replacing an O2 sensor or diagnosing a misfire is much easier with this tool. hopefully this is coherent... I'm a few Spaten deep right now...
