BMW CCA AutoX
Some pictures I took from this past weekend at summit point CCA Autox.
All in all it was a fun day - just a bit wet and slippery, which made it interesting. Enjoy (BTW I traveled out from Arlington, VA with the guy in the hellrot E36 Sedan) |

Great pics, nice turnout.
I too had an event on Sat. Car control Clinic plus Mini Auto-X in afternoon. Circular and Figure-8 skid pad. Breaking and avoiding drills, slalom. Nice way to learn the dynamics of the car and its limits. (the driver's too) |

If you do a little more research on handling you'll find that 20" rims will actually give you WORSE handling.... 20" rims will be A LOT heavier than your stock wheels that are already pretty heavy. Heavier rims will slow your 0-60 times because the motor has to rotate more weight, and also aid in your car not cornering as fast in the turns because of excess weight that needs to be redirected. Look into it a little more and you'll read up on it all. The misconception that it handles better is because people feel the lack of a taller tire side wall that makes the wheels / tires feel firmer, but that's it. I've got 19's on my car at the moment ( Morr's ) that weigh 19lbs front and 20lbs in the rear. Which is pretty light for a 19", but it's still kinda heavy. So I'm gonna get some lightweight 18" wheels just for auto-x / track. You can get some 18" rims in the 17 / 18 lbs range for a decent price... I believe that the stockers are something like 25 / 26 lbs. 20" rims depending what you get are probably over or close to 30lbs. So just imagine how much quicker you could accelerate and corner with a wheel that weighs around 10 / 12 lbs a WHEEL less than a 20" ... x 4 wheels.... Unsprung weight is the best weight to save, you'll read that anywhere B |

Haha, thanks for the comments guys. I guess my sarcasm was a bit much on that one. I was trying to joke around because the other thread claimed that his car handled better via 20" X5 wheels (insert baller-ness here).
Rotational mass weight ftl. Thanks for all the comments. I come from the E36 crowd so I am use to being sarcastic and giving a little touch love. There are all kinds of crazies in the E36 world. |

Looks like fun. What type of facility was the event held at? No numbers on the cars? How did you and your ill handling 18's do against your hellrod friend?

oops maybe a typo on my part. That's what I get for typing fast and not proof reading.
you get the idea though. Quote:
My buddy in the E36 has GC coils and a few other goodies. I think he posted one of the best times of the day, so he did real well. All in all, it was a lot of fun with some real nice folks. M coupe is a blast... the only thing I realized is how quiet my car is compared to my old E36. My car was so quiet compared to some of the cars, it might have been mistaken for a hybrid...
