TPMS Question

I am wondering if my car came with the in tire (valve stem) type of TPM or the VSS type and how to verify this for sure. I am not even sure if it was optional as I have been finding conflicting statements on the interweb.
My car is a 2008 Z4 3.0si roadster (Canadian) that was purchased with aftermarket 19" wheels.
I am chasing the dreaded ATC, ABS, LTP warning lights (DSC) and want to rule out the simple stuff first.
Is there a module in the car that I can physically look at to determine which system my car came with, or were ALL 2007 and up Z's equipped with the same system (valve stem) regardless?

If you check your wheel speed sensors you might find out they are dirty , bad or loaded with rust. I cleaned mine and that problem went away.

The 06's work off the vehicle speed sensor on each tire, 07+ has the pressure sensor on the valve stem of each tire. Your 08 will have the valve stem TPMS setup.

All cars sold in the United States from 07+ have a TPMS standard, its not optional.

*Edit* sorry just noticed you're in Canada, but you probably still have the valve stem sensor setup.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the car was purchased by my father (RIP) originally and the car came with the aftermarket wheels it now has. I just inherited the car and live in another province, so it will need a thorough inspection before I can register it. I have no idea if these lights were on the whole time of his ownership or if it is something that just arose.
The car has just under 39,000 km and I have checked/cleaned the VSS sensors and checked the wiring/connections at each wheel and verified the reluctors were clean of debris.
In my searches, I read that the receiver module for the TPMS is somewhere in the transmission tunnel, close to the tail shaft.
Is there anyone that can confirm the actual location? Because I also read that some Canadian cars were offered as TPMS optional.
I am waiting for my scan tool to arrive so I can diagnose further.
Good ole internet.
Cheers,

Tye

The TPMS antennas are located behind the wheel well liners.
I believe the module itself is in the tunnel (not 100% on this)
AFIK all CDN cars from '07 on were mandated to have TPMS

On another note, they can be coded off, which gets rid of the dash light.

Can you please elaborate on coded off? Is this through the INPA tool I have been hearing about or just a code reader/scan tool?
Also, will this affect the traction control and ABS?
I am trying to get the lights off for the out of province inspection and do not need to create any further problems, however, if I can delete the TPMS and fix the other lights, I will be happy.

My Z4M is a Canada car, and does not have TPMS sensors. It reads of off the ABS sensors to compare wheel speed and determine a low pressure situation.

You could check for the receiving antena behind the wheel liners, or if you have NCSExpert, look at the coding. I will post mine when I get to my computer

What year is your car? The switch over date is 2007...so some '07 got the TPMS sensors and some '07 use ABS sensors.

Mine is an 07, produced in April

These are the values in my Kombi module, and my monitor system works just fine.

KBUS_RDC - K-BUS TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC)
nicht_aktiv
AKUSTIK_RDC - TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC) WARNING GONG
aktiv
CAN_RDC - CAN-BUS TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC)
aktiv

As I understand, KBUS option is used when the sensors and antennas are present and send the signal to the KOMBI (Cluster), CAN option is when the signal is read through ABS sensor, and the KOMBI manages any warning.

the other option is just the chime to let the user know if a low tire pressure condition is detected (AKUSTIK_RDC ).

It would be very educational if someone with factory TPMS sensors can post their values for the parameters above.

EDIT: Just to reiterate, my values above are factory, my car DOES NOT have TPMS sensors in the wheel assemblies, and my monitoring system works.

07z4m with TPMS in wheel sensor system

From factory:

- KBUS_RDC - K-BUS TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC) - set to aktiv
- AKUSTIK_RDC - TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC) WARNING GONG - set to aktiv
- CAN_RDC - CAN-BUS TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (RDC) - set to nicht_aktiv

I think you are correct maupineda.

I have not removed the tire to check for transmitters yet but found something odd while searching for easier solutions.
I was checking fuses, in location 42 & 43 for the DSC/ASC, someone had installed a 20A fuse in one location and a 40A in the other. I reinstalled 30A (factory recommended) in both locations.
Still waiting for my scanner/reader to arrive and I just ordered a cable for using INPA/NCSExpert.
Need to verify, if I disable TPMS, will this affect the traction control?

I have disabled my 07 in-wheel TPMS system for a few years now.

Too much hassle with track wheels etc

Traction control works fine.

Hoping it's something simple in your case.

When I had that collection of lights, it was post collision with 2 deer at highway speeds, which bent the steering rack (there's a wheel position sensor in that housing that feeds input to the stability systems).

My Canadian-origin 2008 M has TPMS that's based on relative wheel speeds.

I have struggled with this for too long and have sent my car to a reputable independent BMW specialist who will also perform the out of province inspection.
It seems the problem is not as easy of a fix as I was hoping. The shop has now spent 3 hours (at $140/hr) and has not found the problem. At what point do I pull the plug on this shop and where do I go from here???
The shop claims that the errors are triggered by the steering angle sensor and VSS. However, they claim that the actual sensors test fine???
Broken wire somewhere???

The shop phoned today and told me the bad news. Diagnosis is a bad ABS/DSC module.
Quote is $3100 plus labor and can only get it from BMW (Germany, at least 5 weeks).
Is there anywhere in North America to send this module? I think I was on 1 website where it stated that if it had certain codes, they could not repair. My codes consist of: 5DF0, 5DF1, 5DD0, 611E, 611B, 6128, 6127
Any feedback on this would be helpful.

Just came across this:

https://xemodex.ca/ca/abs-modules/

Anyone have any experience with either of these places?
