Great Progress Vanne. engine sounds good. Cant wait to see end result. I see the SAP is removed on your car, assumed the smoke from heat wrap was coming from SAP port on the cyl head until i saw your comment on the exhaust wrap, did you guys code out SAP as yet?

Josh is a legend, thank you for the referral. We are going to start Servern tuning my Z4m this week.

Josh also sorted out my ecu after Epic locked it. Randy is so paranoid of someone stealing his tune that it leaves one in a bind if you want to switch to a tuner that will actually work with you and be responsive.

Are you planning to dyno tune this beast?

Not sure yet Micheal, just depends if we have time left over before it get really warm here.
There's one shit thing.. due to the huge air to air heat exchanger, there isn't anywhere for the brake coolers hoses to go... I'll have to have a new look when it's all together.. hopefully get time on the lift tomorrow.. front end semi setup and have to replace the tie ends with E90 parts.ill document as I go along tomorrow. Will also run the diff on the lift tomorrow, prob for 15 mins while we data log for Josh.

Need the welders to come back and weld in the supports for the dash and fix the pax foot stand mount. Need them to weld up the rear bumper supports and the front quarter guards supports..

I haven't really looked at how the headlights are gonna go... I have a distinct suspicion that were going to be able to use the lens..a d that's it.. stay tuned...

Not a big fan of Epic....
when I had an ECU issue & car not starting, he had me ship the ECU down to him to sort it out.
Got it back and still didn't work.
Went through hell to get it sorted elsewhere.

I wish I had know about Josh at the time.

Do you need the headlights???
Why not use them as a mold for CF blanks?

SAP was removed last year already, was still tracking n/a then. (had dramas finding the correct block off plate, which Ian sent to me for free..) Zero issues and the tune i was running then from epic had already coded out the light.

Seems like an eons ago.. lolol..

Lol its actually complete horseshit.. I estimated the car to be off the road/track for 6 months total while the change/rebuild was going on.. (and that was dubbled up from the estimated 3 months work required) pffttt.... lol Its been longer than a year already... lets just say its a journey.... hahahaha

Keep it up, Soon it will be ready to tear up the racetrack. that an incredible journey, hats off to you sir... I love the build

Okay great news regarding the SAP delete and Blank off. I plan to do it as well and saw that the e85 2.5L and 3.0L models dont have the SAP, they come with a Blank off plate on the CYL head so was considering getting that blank off plate from BMW and fitting it when i remove the PUMP out the car.

You may not need brake cooling. I have 355 mm rotors and find that brake performance improved when I removed the cooling ducts. Brakes weren’t getting hot enough. YMMV...but give it a try.

Make CF blanks from the headlights. Easy to do. Add about 5mm of clay to two sides so it fills in the gap better.

Thanks. Yeah sounds pretty good I thought too.

Thanks Micheal, I'll have a look about the brake coolers. I did notice due to the bigger spacer that there is now much more room for the brakes to breathe a little.

Quick comparison of the OEM Z4M inner tie rod and the now installed E90 inner tie rod. There is about an inch and a half of difference each side. Which comes out about right as the hub is now 55mm further outwards than OEM.

Oooooooohhhhhhhh....

Heim joints with Nylock nylon-locking nuts....this is GOOD!

I do have a very harsh criticism regarding your F1 build....it appears you could have saved a zillionth of a gram on the side mirror fastener bolts....they should have been made out of space-age titanium (or knowing how you're approaching this build) you already saved the zillionth of a gram!

Lolol.. just to set you at ease then, I had to drill out 1mm at 12mm circumference for the mirror mount to slot in over the 6mm insert. That should be about a zillionth of a gram.

Spent yesterday prepping up the 2 front CF guard mounts. Nifty little pieces actually. Might take a pic of it today. I also have to fix a few holes that need to be filed in and have to cut a few bits and pieces from the arches.

Fun fun...

Pretty sure i said a few bits and pieces...

lolol...

So thats given me an extra 2cm of suspension travel. Originally when the car is standing on the floor there is only 1.5cm or clearance with the rubber and the arch (thats static, not even at speed) Have to seam weld it back together tomorrow.. then the other side... and this will give me the opportunity to run real slicks with a proper side wall when these run ins are done for. Not sure if its evident in the picture, but ive just continued the radius of the arc all the way around. not really sure why they didnt do that as OEM?.. anyways, bit of a mess now, but i think it will clean up really nice.

Man soo happy that the tune took. Huge weight of my mind.. Epic locked the tune, so we had to get creative.. took about 9 goes to unlock it.. and it's one of those things, no doubt you guys know, a couple of hex off and you brick the ECU. Nasty..

But really happy with the result.. The smoke is from the wrapped headers, they are curing from 2 or 3 heat cycles.

Will get proper oil before we shake down.
Actually, will need proper fluids everywhere. The rear diff needs to be run for 30 mins before swapping oil, the brakes need to be completely flushed.. that's still an unknown too...
Vanne!
Sounds a lot like my wife's Subaru Outback....ONLY DIFFERENT!!!!

SO incredibly awesome - can you even imagine what it will be like to strap The Beast on....cinch down your racing harness and....go WFO

This is an incredible idea... the work and innovative solutions you're putting into this build are awesome!

(you'll notice the DSSR... yeah that's my second one, though this one is nicer, as my previous custom one was nicked on one of the services done at a previous workshop. This happens a lot in these parts of the world... apparently.. i was absolutely fuming ) This one is much better built though and definitively an upgrade from the previous one

I also ordered a few bits and peices from Amazon last night to build the cable for the steering wheel push buttons, to control the Racepack on the fly.

Added another bit. Snow Performance 210 Stage 2 Boost Cooler Water Methanol Injection Kit. Not for extra HP, but to up the Octane rating of our crappy fuel over here.

nope, the fuel is absolutely dirty here... and race fuel is crazy expensive here. This is cheap insurance that the engine doesnt go bang.
