The 3.0si has definitely earned my respect as a qualified race car. Took the car for its first race weekend with BMW CCA club racing at Roebling Road. The car performed like a champ, we still have a few things to work out, but overall very happy with the results

SO awesome.

For the unlearned, perhaps you can tell us about a few of the highlights of the HP class....safety rules (cage, seat, etc), engine, suspension.

I have attached the CCA Club Racing Rules. All cars require a 6 point cage, safety etc. The key is the HP to Weight Ratio and the higher you go up the more modifications you can do. I built this car for WRL endurance series and BMW HP. the 3.0si you can get up to 285 to 295hp with a full set up, the key is the M3 with the S54 is in the same class but has to be almost 200lbs heavier. So HP/Weight becomes a bigger factor, as well as reliability. We still have a lot of tweaking to do but the car is a blast to drive. My other car which is be build for C-Mod has no weight restrictions and has a fully built S54 Stroker Motor. That will be a site to see. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me.

Greetings M-Cast and thank you for the very detailed response.

If I'm reading this correctly, did you remove appx 150 lbs from the E86 (car 84) race car?? That alone must have really affected its handling, braking, turn, in, etc.

Just curious, what is the appx weight of the 6 point cage and how this weight added high in the car affected center of gravity, handling, etc.

What is the engine redline and what is the RPM that you upshift?? Perhaps they're two separate answers.

Really appreciate your correspondence....for those that only dream of a race car, this gives us insight into the real thing.

We went with a different cage setup in this car than the CMod due to the weight restriction on a minimum prep weight is 2890. Prep weight includes fuel and driver weight. We should be able to get the car down to 2600 lbs dry with no problem. The balance of the car was really nice, but Tire selection will be important. I am switching to Hoozers and the 17" forged wheels. I ran both 17 and 18" with two different types of Toyo tires. I ran 2 seconds faster with the 17" and Toyo RR vs the 18" R888R.

Redline is revs are at 7200. Switching from the 3.46 to the 3.73 made a huge difference in the rev range.

You are amazing - such precision and so many "math equations" to calc to ensure the finished product meets spec/weight/etc....and gearing calcs to ensure proper rev and achieving maximum BHP....and the tires/wheels....wowie what a difference that can make.

Thank you for including us.

Took the car out on a nice long drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway after being parked for over a year (fresh rod bearings). I've missed this car so much

The Z has such a timeless design. Some thinks the nose is too long, but I think it's perfectly proportioned!
