RSM noise
If you have top rear shock mounts (RSM) and a roadster, do you hear noise from the back?
I have some noise from the rear when twisting the car slowly (aka ramps/driveways). First theory is that the tabs that the shelf screws into on the roadster don't let the top mounts sit flush see below:

Is curing up the rear carpet required for installation?
I just got a set for my coupe. I know it supposed to be fairly invoked getting to the mounts (one side in particular), but I certainly hope I don't need to cut up my trunk liner. That would suck! |

actually looking at the pic in HD on my laptop i seems to me once that piece would be tighten or aligned correctly it would be well withing those notches that you high-lighted, look at the angle of the rsm..... theirs more than enough space for this to fit once the rsm is seated correctly.....
btw when i do this install i will making sure i take apart my interior very gently, im happy to take extra time to preserve the linings in this area.

I think the carpet is already in that shape, you will have to remove the foam. I would've preferred if they cut a window in it instead of yanking it out... Not sure what else to fill that spot with. Any thoughts?
As for the plate no matter how you position it it doesn't clear the tab. I think I'm going to take it out and file it down slightly until it clears it. I don't think it will compromise functionality since RE ships one that's half of it for the e46 convertible:

"Q. I have a convertible. Why do I need to have modified plates? A. Because of the different method of RSM installation in a convertible, the upper plates must be modified to accommodate and protect the tower. See pictures below, for a visual explanation. Z3 models do not apply!" Also, did you torque the top nut? "Q. I just installed your RSMs and now I have a clunk from the back. What did I do wrong? A. Check torque of top nut, making sure you have enough preload. Too much is also bad, as it prematurely wears out the bushings. " |

I had a similar noise - turns out it was the bottom coils of the coilovers rubbing together. visible scrapes on the coils. Tested with electrical table bumpers - solved the problem. Fixed long-term with flexible cable wrap around the next-to-bottom cable. And yes, the z4M uses the standard mounts.

I checked and I have some scrapes on the coils so you might have nailed it. Can you link an example of the kind of cable wrap you used?

Old thread, but
I shimmed the top plates with 5/16" I.D. 3/4" O.D. washers to get them up off the tabs that the shelf screws into.
Yea, less reinforcement, but more than with the stock nuts.
