Should I renew BMW Assist for $199?
Mine is expiring this December and I just received a notice to renew. Has anyone else renewed theirs?

I did, it's something you may only use once in a few years, but to me it was peace of mind.

It's like OnStar but more expensive with less features.

So you still have RFT tires and always have cell signal. I used mine twice in 6 years and at the time it was worth every penny. Piece of mind and they tow to nearest BMW center.
If you always have cell signal you are missing some of the best roads in Cali. LOl This is one of many reasons we roll out in groups. LOL |

I tried it today to see if it works. Very nice person answered and walked me through the program and benefits - apparently the Dealer was supposed to do this when I purchased 51 months ago?

Some insurance companies offer a discount for this as it qualifies for tracking/theft recovery.

I figured SOS could cause an unwanted response so I used the wrench button.

I wouldn't buy it.
Here's what I do. I have AAA insurance and I put their 800 emergency number in my cellphone as well as the numbers for the local AAA tow service. That takes care of road emergencies.
Unless you want BMW to make hotel reservations, give you directions and things like that, it just doesn't pay. |

I have roadside assistance with my USAA insurance, certainly don't need BMW Assist as well

is it like onstar in the sense that it can be used to track your car if stolen or notify emergency responders in case of a crash?

Hideously overpriced for what amounts to a cellphone buried in your car that dials BMW (and nobody else) directly. Unless you don't own a cellphone, it's a huge waste of money. At $50 for 4 years, I might renew, but that's the absolute max I'd pay.
As for insurance discounts, I seriously doubt that they would check if the system was active. Just its presence should do the trick.
