51718044699 Filling Insert Left

Hi. I'm replacing a front bumper cover, and associated parts, on a 2008 Z4M Roadster. PO was somewhat less than anal retentive when some relatively minor accident damage was repaired. Looking through RealOEM I found parts 51718044699 and 51718044700 FILLING INSERTS Left and right. Any information on where these guys are "inserted"? I have the old front bumper cover off, and don't see these parts anywhere. Thanks for any help!!!

I had my bumper off recently and don't remember seeing those parts at all.

Aha....found 'em. They are two rather dense foam pieces that are attached, with 6 mm dia. butyl cord, to the inside surface of the bumper cover just to both sides of the grill openings. TIS has a blurb under 51 11 157. Purpose of the "fillers"....completely clueless. RealOEM shows a price of $36 each. Excuse me!!

Interesting. I don't remember seeing such pieces on the back of the bumper. Just the headlight washers and grilles.

Welcome to owning a car that is well out of production.

$36 sounds like a bargain to me. Price out the dash trim or leather wrapped interior bits....

FWIW, BMW Parts Manager says that the fillers "reduce vibrations".

Finally see where those pieces go. Attached to the bumper itself.
