Removed stowage divider thingie, now top won't go down?!

So after doing rear shocks at 1130pm on a work night I was in such a hurry to get inside that I left the stowage divider in my driveway, and my roommate ran over it in the AM(I am 0% mad at him, I am the dummy who left it there,) and prior to acquiring a new one I attempted to set the adjusters in the low position, but to no avail, top will not move. I have since messed with different positions with those knobs, but nothing works.
What am I missing here? Tried search, but didnt get any clarification.

There is a switch in the middle of the bulkhead. It is my understanding that the shelf in the down position will activate that switch. I think it is that bent wire thing towards the bottom in the photo below. That probably needs to be pushed in.

if you stick a piece of paper towel in there and push that lever in, your top should work.

you might not have the divider installed correctly.
