Contrary to what BMW marketing wants us to believe, 50/50 weight distribution is not ideal for handling...

E34 M5 is king for me, one of the first BMWs I ever rode in and then later one of the first M cars I ever drove was an E34 M5 owned by a close friend and that car is just amazing. E39 M5 is a close second. |

E39...but then again, I'm biased.
I have total respect for the S85 in the E60, but could never warm up to it for DD use because if you are really having fun with in above 6K RPM, you are in "go to jail" territory, and below 5K RMP the lack of torque is noticeable. Still, the sheer gleeful insanity of shoving a V-10 into an M5 probably makes it #2 for me. But if I was going to buy a 2nd M5 it would the the E28 or E34.

40/60 would be better, but not very realistic on a front engined sedan vehicle... |

I've driven an E24 M6 gray market with the same M88/3 286 hp engine as the E28 european version M5. That for me was magic. Also drove an E39 US spec M5 as a possible purchase and decided not to. Couldn't get past the steering which was recirculating ball and very disconnected feeling at least to me. If the E28 was anything close to the E24 I drove I'd take it in a heartbeat over the E39 or any of the others.
Interesting that the F80 M3 is larger in every dimension except height and heavier than the E28 M5. Will be interesting to see the final specs on the next iteration of the M3 to see if it exceeds size and weight of the E34. |

I really enjoyed that video, thank you!
How to pick a favorite, jeez… I love the E34 because it has that timeless look, and I love the E60 because of that sick S85 engine 🤤 But, I think my favorite is the E39. That’s the one for me 😍 |

I just wanted to point out that 50:50 is BMW marketing fluff and has nothing to do with being "ideal".

I maybe bias but for the engine F10, E60, E39.
Looks E39 and F10 a tie. Overall, IMO F10 because it fixed everything that fell short from the previous models. Havent owned an F90 yet but not planning too unless they release a manual tranny. |
