A reputable shop in California who makes widebody kit for many race cars such as e92 and E46 is willing to make a mold to make a fender flare for our Z.

I hate those fat ones that has rivets so I asked him to do something like this s2000

I would need at least 5 people and the price is $500 for all 4 corners.

Let me know if anyone is interested?

Here are some pics of what I was thinking.
Let me know if you guys have a better idea.

Shop is called DTM fiberworks

I am in!

Can they also do something with creating an aggressive front canard like we spoke about a couple months back?

I’d be in only if the flares are more aggressive looking and they don’t look so aftermarket like they do in the S2000.

That could look good .

By installing such flares and having wheels mounted almost flush, im assuming we have to cut our fenders , am I right ?

I'm in - but more info on how it attaches please (and timeline). Hopefully, no body work needed (cutting Ok, but no priming/filling/sanding would be ideal)

Keep us posted.

Ok so I'm taking my car there next week to discuss. But they said they have done similar flares as Porsche GT3 in Other cars.

They said they don't require pre deposit since none of you has no clue of how the look will be, the pre deposit will start only after the flare has been developed and shown to you guys.
He said that he will have all orders fulfilled by end of February.

I will discuss with him details about price.

So this is the idea. If you guys have ideas to make the flare look as clean as possible, feel free to share before I go there discuss the design.

Alex I know you have the VRS front spoiler, are you planning on bringing all the way down?

Ohh great point man.....I don't think I will go over the vrs lip because it will be sticking out more than fender. I think it would look nice if it stops right where the vrs lip starts what do you think?

If you are interested too, I could ask him to do only 2 pieces a little shorter unless you have a better idea

Also for the rears, what do you think? Go all the way to the beginning of the side skirt?

I agree,

On the rear, I think it would be good to carry it all the way. It would work better for those with the aero side rocker panels.

If you look at the white Porsche concept vs the gree they provided two options, I think if they did the same with this it would be more universal. This is a really rough idea, but they could create 2 piece section to cover the reflector and carry into the VRS spoiler line. People without that spoiler would just have a shorter version.

All great ideas! You sort of touched on it already, but few people have the VRS front lip and not everyone has aero rocker panels. Perhaps making something that works with any setup will help keep costs down and attract more buyers?

Yea not everyone has the VRS front lip and/or aero side panels. Some of us are planning on adding carbon fiber side skirts which I believe will look like Mcast’s skirts. Overall,

Feedback:

-Keep it simple like the Voltex flares. May be fairly easy, I have friends who have used those voltex flares on other applications, I almost wouldn't be surprised if those Voltex flares would *nearly* be a fit as-is.

-Design flares to be compatible with OEM front bumper & sides. Perhaps just follow the vertical/flat side portion that both our fenders & 1/4's have.

-Have the rear of the flares end slightly higher than the front. This should give an overall aggressive look due to the rake, while still maintaining aerodynamic function and fairly universal application (compatible with different front lips/bumpers, side skirts, etc.).

-Have both front and rear flares match. If there is a slight rake with front of the flare dipping lower than the rear, this should be matched on the front and rear. This will ensure an overall clean aesthetic is maintained.

I used my own car to give a basic idea with MS Paint. The lowest point on mine conveniently ends where my aftermarket sides begin, but looking at the leading line created by the bottom of the door (and also comparing to how the Voltex on S2k looks), this seems like it would be appx a good spot regardless.

Notes: I *think* Voltex have 2-3 different versions of their front flares. The style on the Blue car and this red are the ones I'm most referring to/interested in:

Thanks for working on this! If there's anything I can do to help, LMK!

I think it would be good to fade it into the creases of the rear bumper line
