Does the stock E85 Z4M shift knob illuminate?
I pulled my shift knob off for fun and to my surprise, there were two wires coming from the knob and down into the boot.
My knob has never illuminated but I bought my car used so now I'm not sure if it is supposed to illuminate or not. Does the stock E85 shift knob illuminate? 2007 model year. Thanks! |

It does when the parking or headlights are turned on. Swap it for a ZHP knob for a better shift feel.

Yes it does illuminate on the Z4M. The 2 wires you saw are disconnected and therefore don’t illuminate the knob. Unless they’re fried

Okay, I'm an idiot.
Today in the dark I saw that it does indeed illuminate. I don't know how in hell I didn't see it illuminate before. Sorry for wasting your time. Elener >> Yes, I definitely was considering the ZHP knob. The reason I posted this was because I wasn't sure if I should get the illuminated ZHP or the non illuminated one. Looks like the illuminated one it is. |

I have a brand new in-the-box Z4M illuminated shifter for sale, ping me if anyone is interested. I bought it before my car arrived, only to find that it had the M5 illuminated shorty plus a LeatherZ boot with M-colored stitching - which I have no intention of changing.

My shift knob was so obviously illuminated I noticed it right away. That said I was aware ///M shift knobs are illuminated so I was more aware of it ahead of time. |
