Does the stock E85 Z4M shift knob illuminate?

I pulled my shift knob off for fun and to my surprise, there were two wires coming from the knob and down into the boot.

My knob has never illuminated but I bought my car used so now I'm not sure if it is supposed to illuminate or not. Does the stock E85 shift knob illuminate? 2007 model year.

Thanks!

It does when the parking or headlights are turned on. Swap it for a ZHP knob for a better shift feel.

Yes it does illuminate on the Z4M. The 2 wires you saw are disconnected and therefore don’t illuminate the knob. Unless they’re fried

Okay, I'm an idiot.
Today in the dark I saw that it does indeed illuminate.
I don't know how in hell I didn't see it illuminate before.

Sorry for wasting your time.

Elener >> Yes, I definitely was considering the ZHP knob. The reason I posted this was because I wasn't sure if I should get the illuminated ZHP or the non illuminated one. Looks like the illuminated one it is.

Stock knob illumination is not that strong or probably your knob's bulb got weak.
Here is the F10 M5 knob (not sure if its same as zhp)

The M5 illuminated knob is what he wants. ZHP feel with LED illumination.

I have a brand new in-the-box Z4M illuminated shifter for sale, ping me if anyone is interested. I bought it before my car arrived, only to find that it had the M5 illuminated shorty plus a LeatherZ boot with M-colored stitching - which I have no intention of changing.

Beautiful combo.
My shift knob was so obviously illuminated I noticed it right away. That said I was aware ///M shift knobs are illuminated so I was more aware of it ahead of time.

Installed the M5 illuminated shifter knob and boot. The knob is ZHP like being much heaver and shorter than stock. The leather is much nicer too.
