I asked a couple of weeks ago and they said they intend to start the project in May. We're only a couple of days into May, o I haven't followed up again yet.

Another quick update: Karbonius has started the design and hopes to provide some details soon.

I am so excited. I hope I can ride it legally in Germany. If they just rebuild the orig. part virtually only from carbon, it should be legal.

But can someone ask that to be sure?

GuggagZ4M - I'm not sure who to ask and I personally have no idea about German car modification regulations and design codes (I live in Australia). Karbonius, being in Spain and never having produced this part before, are probably also not the right people to ask.

Have you tried to find the relevant sections of your local legislation and/or codes/regulations?

Does every cosmetic modification in Germany have to have TüV approval?

We're getting closer. Karbonius has advised that this month they hope to have the provisional mould and first prototype ready for test fitment. If that goes well, they will manufacture a high-quality mould and produce the real thing.

Not since the last update. I'll follow up again in the next couple of days (I've generally been trying to only bother them once a month).

Karbonius has finished the prototype plenum - see the pictures below. This was straight out of the autoclave, so it hasn't been cleaned up at all. Next week they will be testing the fitting and sound. Fingers crossed!

This was straight out of the autoclave (it was still hot apparently), so I'd guess the trumpets weren't fitted yet. I'll confirm with them, though.

It looks like they have done away with the stock detail on the top of the box, all of the 6 conical bumps for the trumpets. Unless all of those pics are of the bottom.

In the second picture you can see that the top of the plenum is flat, so I'm pretty sure the six bumps are not there. I wonder if this means the top is actually a little higher than the standard plenum, to allow for the trumpets?

I believe they have used the intake side of their CSL air box then they will add the new stock looking piece to it.
It's interesting but it certainly isn't a carbon fibre replica of the stock air box, that's what I was hoping for.

It seems it will work out pretty similar to the one Michael9218 made:

Looks good, and I like the approach rather than just copying the stock one. I assume once assembled, they will glue them for sealing, with the maf approach the box must be air tight

Haven't been in this forum lately. Just saw all this.

Is production number locked on this; or is this still open?

It would be interesting to know how they seal the two pieces to avoid MAF reading issues

Wide open, this is still at the prototype phase and I can't see Karbonius doing all this work and then not putting it into their line up and offering it to the general public.

Karbonius is testing the plenum this week (hopefully) and then if it works, there will be a call for people to commit. So, this is still totally open to people who aren't currently on the list.

To confirm a few more details:
- the plenum will be made in two pieces together but bonded together to result in a one-piece (so no CSL air filter)
- carbon fibre trumpets will be fitted
- Karbonius opted for a flat top surface (versus the having humps like the OE plenum) as this provides a louder sound. They were also not aiming for an exact reproduction.
