E85/E86 Windshield interchangeability

Hi all,

Been having a rough year (crashed an E30 M3 taking kid to school a couple of months back). Last night, in preparation for removing a bolt in roll bar and having a proper cage welded in, I un fastened the bolt in bar. Though I had it properly secured, but it tipped forward overnight catching the mirror and breaking the windshield.

It would be nice if my stupidity hurt as little as possible. Obviously, a roadster is going to be a much easier piece to find used. However, the internet sellers seem to indicate different part numbers.

Are the windshields interchangeable?

Thanks!

Yeah, not so much in this case. Realoem only shows that it has a unique part number, and in my experience with realoem, this doesn't strictly mean that this won't work.

I have done a lot of digging into this. Coupe windshields are tough to come by. The difference between the vert and coupe is where the rear view mirror is attached as well as the rain sensor and tinting on the top to hide the sensor and mirror. Physically they will fit though.

Realoem calls out 51317051545 as fitting E85&E86 2002-2008
But 51317183013 only for E86.

Trim around window is called out same for both 51317017021

Never easy is it
