Replacing wheel studs, bearings and hubs

How often do you do this on your track car?

I've been doing wheel studs and lug nuts every 1-2 years, and wondering if that's overkill. I use the race kit from Bimmerworld.

I've also never done the wheel bearings and hubs. My car is at 52k miles right now, with about 20k miles including over 100 track days. No signs of wear as yet, but wondering id I should replace preemptively before something goes sideways on the track.

I would say every few years on the wheel studs. Buy quality studs with the reinforced shoulder like the Apex studs or the BW race studs. A key to longevity is to not torque your wheels when the studs are hot. This will cause them to stretch and eventually snap.

Wheel bearings give plenty of warning when they start to wear. Check them every time you move tires around. Replace when warn.

Yeah, the BW set has been my go-to for a while now. Last replacement was in 2019, but I'm just getting anxious thinking about the couple failures I've seen on track.

Good to know about warning signs of bearing wear. I bought a set for all corners, but I guess I can wait till I do that job. Thanks!

Depends on how often you’re swapping wheels during that period. With Covid and all I’ve barely hit the track so the wheel studs have not been swapped since 2020. For my non tracked cars I’d swap lugs every 4 years or so. For my tracked cars that saw regular track days, every 2 seasons max

Yeah, I think every 2 seasons seems to be the consensus here for track cars. For my street cars, I've never bothered because I never keep them long enough haha

I swapped out for Core 4 Motorsports hubs. Pricey, but they don't need swapping the studs like converted hubs do.
