Mine was 10/07 build date and also still going strong. Replaced it today with a Duracell H6 AGM from Batteries+Bulbs, full 4-year replacement warranty.

Interestingly, the battery says "Made in Germany" on it. East Penn is allegedly the OEM for Duracell, and the ones that Sams Club shows all say "Made in USA" on them, but this one is apparently supplied by somebody else. All I care about is the 4-year full replacement warranty, that's some solid peace of mind, especially here in Arizona, where batteries go to die.

Had to replace me battery after 9 years. Amazon has an ACDelco AGM 48/h6 battery for 168.08 but with a 20% off coupon. Best price I could find and includes 2 day shipping with my prime membership.

I put that battery in my (former) ZHP and it died after less than 2 years. Local ACDelco dealer refused to warranty it, claiming it checked out "ok", but it was clearly unable to hold a charge. Hopefully you have better luck.

My Duralast H6 AGM isn't holding a charge anymore after 4.5 years. The car had always felt weak starting since day 1 - you know, the feeling that the starter is strained? But it always turned over, just not as quickly as my X5. It gave me a scare on a few cold mornings. Decided to put in an Bosch H7 AGM today since Pep Boys is running a 25% off until the end of the month. WOW - the starter seemed so energized - No more slow, belaboring turning over! I am more than happy to sacrifice a bit of weight gain for the reassurance that it won't die on me on a cold day.

Braille #15 battery with Macht Schnell e92 carrier. Saves significant weight but needs a tender (or disconnect) for long durations of down time. Otherwise, cranks and handles the car's electronics with no issues.

No personal experience with this product, and it's definitely not cheap, but...

https://en.liteblox.de/

4.4lbs, smartphone integration, integrated kill-switch, anti-theft.

I used their configurator for the M Coupe, and my result was this...

I've done a lot of work on my car but this was the first time I swapped a battery, so forgive me if this is a silly question...

I installed a new battery recently (Duralast Platinum H6-AGM). Does it need to be connected to the battery vent tube?

Anyone else install an Odyssey battery? I ordered this one back in November of last year. This week, my engine barely turns over and struggles to start. I checked the battery voltage and the reading at rest was 7.5V-9.7V. With engine running it jumps up to 14.7V. I have been using a CTEK battery charger to keep the voltage up but if I don't plug it in every night, it'll get very low again and I'm afraid it will strand me. Even if I unplug the battery for a couple hours, the voltage will drop to 11V and the car is not even locked.

I brought the car to a BMW specialist to check for a parasitic draw and everything checked out fine. They did say however, that the Z4 requires a 90 amp hour battery and this one is only 80? I couldn't find the stat on that, is that true?

Working on an exchange/warranty return but I'm baffled. Odyssey are supposedly good batteries, and I ordered the H7 - the bigger battery.

Well...the Bosch AGM died just after about 2 years. It held a charge (showing 12.2V to 12.4V), but no CA to start the car. Luckily caught this in my drive way. Got to test out Pep Boys' 4 years free replacement warranty and happy to report there was no hassle - just took it to the back for a quick test and handed me a brand new battery. They no longer carry the Bosch branded battery and had switched to this Champion one. My internet poking indicated that Bosch was made by Exide and this new Champion is made by Johnson Control (Clarios). I don't think it matters much as it's pretty much a crapshoot with batteries as I have a similar Bosch (H8) in my X5 for over 7 years and it's still going strong - will need to preventative swap that one out soon.

Any updates? I'm in the market for a new battery.

My O'Reilly Super Start Platinum - AGM Battery (Part #48PLT) failed at 3 years and 1 month (3 year warranty).

Why would you want to pay almost $300 for an AGM battery? Regardless of how great it is, you would most likely want to swap it out every 4 to 5 years anyway as batteries have a tendency to just randomly die with age. Just pick one with a good warranty and call it the day. Batteries had gone so expensive recently, I've decided to try out a Walmart AGM for my 17-year-old X5 (pictured below), which have a 4 year free replacement warranty...will see how that goes

I had various batteries over the years and had come to the conclusion that they're all basically the same. Some examples that I could remember (you can tell I'm an old fart with the list):
  • Interstate (Exide) - Gone through 2 bad batteries in a row within 1 week and finally, replaced it with a 3rd one that lasted about 3 years.
  • Sears Diehard - Lasted about 4 years. Just died suddenly one afternoon. I had remembered that it started the car perfectly that morning without any signs of going bad (no slow start), then went to completely dead in that afternoon.
  • Autozone Duralast (JCI) - The AGM lasted 4.5 years until it stop holding a charge. The flooded one went 5 years before I preemptively replaced it (could probably go longer)
  • O'Reilly Super Start (Exide) - Slow turnover after 3 years...preemptively replaced
  • Carquest - Slow turnover after 4 years...preemptively replaced
  • Honda - Two died after 4 years. One died after 7 years.
  • PepBoys Bosch AGM - One lasted 7 years+ before I preemptively replaced it (could probably go longer). Another one stop holding a charge after 2 years and got warrantied.

So in the end I just went the Canadian Tire Motomaster replacement (Lead Acid).

In 2016 it was the Motomaster Eliminator and now in 2022 the equivalent is the Motomaster OEPlus. They rebranded the batteries and the Eliminator is now the AGM version. The Lead acid I got from them last time lasted ALMOST 6 years (2 years beyond warranty). So for $150 I just went with the same battery. The AGM was negligible weight savings and only a 1 year longer warranty for an extra $100. Which wasn't worth it imho.

FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR THE INFO
2003 BMW Z4 3.0i battery is Group 48

I looked at other options like Braille and Antigravity (and many others) the weight benefits for price weren't worth it. My previous goals were to be a dedicated track car but that's no longer my goal. So I just couldn't justify that money where I could use it somewhere else.

In summary when looking at Lead Acid or AGM they were about 45-55lbs depending. Ranging from $150 - 500 Canadian. The lightweight batteries being $450-$1500 Canadian.

40lbs of battery weight savings = $700-900 more than a run of the mill Canadian Tire battery. The mathematics worked out to roughly $20/lb.....there are some slightly cheaper options but don't have the Amp hours and I need that to run the accessories (ie cooling fan, water to air pump etc for the supercharger).

$20 per pound is pretty good though compared to some other research I did quickly for comparison sake:

2020 M2 CS - 3517lbs $87,495USD
2020 M2 - 3600 lbs $59,895USD
$332.53/lb

2022 M5 CS - 4089lbs $143,995USD
2021 M5 - 4345lbs $113,095USD
$120.70/lb

When you compare price $/lb compared to what BMW's charging it all seems reasonable 🤣😅🤣
