Ohh, what might be really cool is an IR/night vision camera for the front!
Module is signal sensing and will switch to that specific input when the camera is activated (triggered by the reserve lamp).

Atleast do something like this with those rearview cameras. I still don't get what the big deal is of putting a rearview camera on such a small car.

Quote:
For improved aerodynamics, we removed the stock rearview mirrors and replaced them with a trio of "keyhole" video cameras from RV Cams. Each little camera is only 1-in. in diameter, but delivers a 120-degree wide angle image. We mounted one in the center of the rear spoiler pointing straight back and one at the leading edge of each side window, angled to give a clear view of traffic. The three cameras all feed to a 7-in. rectangular screen that shows the scene from all three simultaneously.

Correct - rear view vision is terrible in Z4MCs.

So if you had the reverse camera in the "camera" input,
and another camera (lets say front mounted) in the video input with a separate switch to either ground it or power it,

your saying that will work?
So if you mounted a switch in the car, flipped it and the front camera would come on,

and the same when you hit reverse the rear camera would come on,

When you look into these modules it says "camera" and "Video" as inputs, But in theory you could use 2 cameras if you wanted?

I would love that

Correct - the 2nd device is triggered by a remote wire which is normally found on most +12V electronics.

If using a portable device like an iPod - a switch must be mounted in order to activate the input.

Wow! First I've heard of a kit that installs with stock setup. Definitely on my mod list.

It would be awesome if someone could figure out how to use the camera in an older discarded cell phone..... I have two phones with cameras...and SCREENS that just sit it a drawer. I'd love to somehow incorporate them in my car but i dont know sh!t about where to even begin.

I have the backup camera and module that I got for xmas I still have to fit, Been too cold to mess around and the cars sleeping for winter anyway

I'm thinking of the two camera route, I only have the one camera now but might pick up one more for the front,

hey Tom quick Q,

The connector the module plugs into, Is it behind/inside the dash or is it behind the seats where the amps/bluetooth modules are?

This uses the connector on the rear of the MKIV DVD Drive unit, which is located in the storage console between the seats.

Has anyone installed one of these since the OP? I'm curious how long the installation would take, roughly, for someone with intermediate mod skills unafraid to break a nail or two in the process? I'm most interested in where the lens has been mounted and what issues people have run into with securing the lens. It looks rather large in the photo and could be hideous looking if mounted in the wrong location. The bracket on the lens looks a bit whimpy too but maybe it's better in person.

Camera was mounted in the rear diffuser area, and can hardly be seen from the outside.

How was it mounted (e.g. screws, adhesive etc?)?

This kit is really great, just wish the price were more reasonable for a module and regular camera. 400 bones - I'd rather put that toward performance mods.

I'd be interested to see more installs...

Camera is mounted with double-sided adhesive, which is supplied.

The cost on the VSM is much more reasonable to the BMW TV tuner, which was over $1500 when on the market.

The roady was really bad.
The coupe is better, but still has large blind spots right behind.
It would be nice to see the curb as you back in.

Would anyone have a lead on a connecting cable like the one pictured? It looks like this unit allows you to hook up a camera to the oem switch box.
