So this is a euro-spec Z4MR, I assume. Which means the tune will be expecting to not see cats in headers. I'll be putting euro headers in soon anyway, but just want to be sure when we see numbers, that is the test bed. And that the tune will really be expecting euro headers.

A list of mod is given to Evolve for the tune. They can accommodate the tune to your mods.

Glad to see some movement on this! I *might* be in the market, price depending. Either way, thanks for hooking the community up Evolve and thanks Woot for loaning your car out as well!

I don't remember reading, did the $4200 INCLUDE the tune?

Update,

initial baseline dyno test done. Not fantastic results at all but there is always a reason!

Dyno Test (Evolve Dyno Dynamics)
Z4M Stock + Afe Intake Kit
High Octane Fuel

I am sure many of you have seen this dip at 6000rpm.

See below a quick data log from one of the runs above.

We can clearly see the ignition timing is dipping just before 6000rpm on the data log and this corresponds to what's happening on the dyno also exactly.
Comes back up on the data log and then also on the dyno graph. Ignition remains pretty much the same to the rpm limiter after than and again the graph corresponds well by pretty much flattening off.

So why is this?

Well, to understand this we can look at a few different factors.

IAT - we can see from the dyno graph the ambient is around 24 degrees. The actual IAT is 29.5degC through the run. Not bad but clearly the AFE heatsheild is not doing the best of jobs with our very powerful fan. However this is not a high enough IAT to really worry about.

Knock values per cylinder were all measured and remained consistent. No sudden spikes or anything to worry about.

So why?

Well, we can look at the ignition maps to understand what's going on here.
Below is the Ignition timing full throttle target map for under lowered conditions:

As you can see the shape of the ignition curve in the data log is very similar in that there is a dip very close to just under 6000rpm and then it begins to rise and plateau.
The DME is not still allowing even these targets (around 1-2 degrees less).

So, tomorrow morning we will test again and data log again.

We can estimate the power curve as we know from multiple tests what the shape of the power curve should look like when the DME allows ignition timing for optimal conditions or not lowered conditions.
We will compare the torque through the rpm range to other cars and make an educated guess as to what realistic power should be made.

Clearly there is no knock going on.

If we get a chance we will retest tomorrow morning.

Just thought this bit of information would be very useful to you all and give you an understanding of what actually goes on and why.

Looks like the same dip I have in my supercharged car:

http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=869682

Assuming a 4th gear run, with 4th topping out at about 140 mph, 6k rpm would be about 105 mph. I'll get another dyno in the next few weeks. Looking forward to seeing your progress on this!

Hi,

nothing wrong with the car at all. These DME's just behave this way sometimes and we have experienced the exact same problems on some independent dyno's on this very forum. The DME can just switch to lowered conditions and this is exactly the kind of poor performance it can give.

Just waiting on some new silicone hoses and the airbox will be fitted.

Much more updates coming next week on this project.

Nice update this morning.

CSL oil dip stick fitted
2 x new different fitment breather hoses fitted
12 x new clamps
6 x Silicone joiners

Carbon Airbox fits very nicely with lots of clearance
Very easy to fit due to larger engine bay than E46 M3

Evolve carbon airbox fits directly over the factory cold air feed.

Some quick pics from this mornings work.

Airbox now fully professionally installed.

Test drive done in AlphaN.

Throttle response very crisp even at low rpm when downshifting in comparison to before.

The intake noise is amazing and has different depths and pitches with varying throttle opening / RPM's.

Drivability is very very smooth. Power delivery extremely smooth.

Project has gone far smoother than we expected and the tuning concepts are exactly the same as on the S54.

Dyno test to come this week.

Will make a video of an on road drive through some country lanes here.

Smile

Great progress! Two questions:

1. MAF option?
2. Will require separate tune if installed in conjunction with Schrick cams?
