2005 Z4 GPS Antenna Location

Hi all,

I need to replace the GPS antenna in my 2005 Z4 and have came across conflicting info on where the antenna is located at.

is it next to the rear view mirror

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...55&postcount=4)

or is it in the dash behind the instrument panel/gauges?

also, any instructions on how to reach either would be greatly appreciated! TIA.

i decided to open both locations and found it right above the rear view mirror. disassembly of the plastic roofliner is easy as it is just 1) 4 sunvisor screws, 2) pulling down the plastic trim, and 3) unscrewing 2 more screws to remove the antenna from the metal housing. total time is less than 20 min.

Hey Slam19s
Did your GPS occasionally cut out? Mine did it once after I bought it for a day then cleared then last Sunday on the way home it flashed and lost the satellites an again tonight on my way out to a college to pick up my niece. What a pain this is becoming.
I'm wondering if there is a problem with the antenna.

I had the same problem. Turned out just to be a poor connection at the GPS sensor connector. IF you cant get to the GPS sensor connector through the overhead light hole then:
1. Remove the sunvisors.
2. Work back the pillar and and overhead console fascia back towards the rear of the car. THis will expose the wiring.
I just did the remove and reconnect thing with the connector and "poof" it works. Probably just a little corrosion.

Checked it and the connection was fine above the windshield - I'm not sure where to check it now. I guess I'll try a different antenna.
