Differential 3.0l vs 2.5l

I need a differential for my 2003 Z4 3.0l Automatic. Are the differentials in the 2.5l different than the 3.0l? I see that they have a different part number. I have tried searching this forum but have not come up with this particular answer. Thanks in advance.

In my experience there is no physical difference between 2.5,3.0i or 3.0si diffs, auto or manual. there are different final drive ratios. Highlighted in yellow here.

In short no. That chart is only for ratios.

I wish it was that simple Byron. Alas no.
Takes substantial mods.
IE subrame etc.

for that mod you need the complete rear axle and the propshaft.
Not only has the M diff different mounting points in the subframe, it also has different input and outputflanges, (which cant be swapped out) and the M driveshafts wont fit the non M trailing arms.
Of course if you start off with a 5 speed or automatic, the M propshaft has the wrong lenght, so only a 3.0i/3.0si is really suitable for this conversion.
