Junked M Roadster

High miles but always sad to see. Appears as if it may have extended leather too, but no electric seats.

OMG the PS cupholder works. $5K minimum!

Looks like it went wide on a left hand sweeper and got a trim. Not really that bad.

If you got the space and cash, this looks like a fantastic parts car. I wish. I wonder what the reserve is ?

Looks like I have untapped resale value as my PS cupholder is functional, but the driver's side is not

It’s not clear what damage isn’t visible. The car does seem to be sitting very low so there may be undercarriage issues. If one could see the car in person then perhaps you could determine whether some t l c could put this one back on the road.

Location: Spartanburg SC. Return to its birthplace. Maybe BMW should buy it back and dig a big hole at the Performance Center and bury it there.

That interior held up pretty well for 146k miles. It's in my neck of the woods too, hmmm.

The front wheels point in different directions and there's a cargo strap holding the right one in place.
But even if the front suspension is a write off, still looks like it has lots of good parts left.

The bid is currently at $4k. I think the interior alone would get you a decent amount of your money back

Off topic, but whenever anyone new gets into my car I alw sys have to immediately tell them not to try the cupholder. The last person I told them proceeded to do the cupholder. Thank God it went back in without a problem.

Cupholders were standard in our market, but not in Europe, who had not embraced them yet. Hence there is a blanking plate you can install in place of the cupholder - if you can still find them some place.

Both of my cupholders work and I use them regularly. The trick is being very gentle and careful when closing.

The other trick is not kneeing one from below when it's extended, which tends to blow them apart pretty easily. When you're tall and gangly, it's far too easy to do.

Would love to get my hands on this wreck and pull it apart.

.........get a bunch of Z4M enthusiasts together one weekend and totally gut the thing for parts.

I was thinking the opposite - buy it as a group to restore and then have a random draw among the participants for it.

The more I look at it, the more it looks entirely fixable.

My comment made the "yesterday's comments of note" listing at BaT a couple of weeks ago, commenting on an E39 540i auction:

If your BMW has 3 pedals, a shifter that doesn’t look like a beer tap, hydraulic steering, bad or non-existent cupholders, and lacks forced induction, iDrive, and 37 different suspension settings – congratulations, you’re doing it right. Hold onto that puppy, and DO drive it!
