Finished the New Headlights

They're finally done!

This has been a work in progress for several months, but now all the kinks are worked out and the headlights are finished! I'm pretty stoked, I think they turned out great.

I was inspired by the Tekarbon lights, but after contacting the company I found out they discontinued those lights. So I decided to get them done through a custom shop here in San Diego.

There were some hiccups at first, including some odd wiring issues. But they're finally all sorted, and for custom headlights, the price wasn't too bad either. Personally, I like them better than the kits you can buy off Amazon and other sites. And I think they look miles better than the stock lights, which in my opinion, sort of date the look of the car. Personal taste, though, because they're definitely still a classic look.

In any case, this is how it turned out. They have three settings: just the halos, the halos + the lower indicator LED, and finally the main lights. You can also see in the last picture, they're wired to turn orange for the indicator and hazard signals. They flash just like they normally would when you turn on your blinker.

Looks great, did they have to cut the lights and reseal?

Definitely better than OE, but I would have fill in the rings a bit more like the old e39 or e53 as pictured here to give it a more sinister look. But as it stands, those lights look a bit like a sad puppy dog looking up at me

WickedNy - Thanks! And yes, they did cut and reseal them. Seems to be holding up so far.

SDMCoupe - I got it done at SD Wrap off of Miramar road. But the guy there does this stuff on the side, it isn't part of the SD Wrap regular work they offer. And yes he did everything. I researched it and told him what I wanted, and damn if he didn't make it happen just so.

Grumpy Old Man haha thanks! Yeah I think the regular lights let it down a bit, that old yellow is just a bit sad.

winnipegz4m haha thanks very much!! Quite chuffed.

XMetal I thought about going for the full halos, but the downward slicing eyes looked more like the F80, IMO, which I really like.

What type of led's do those headlights have? Those halos look very streamline and OEM which I'm going for

Wish I could! They were done by a shop here in San Diego. A lot of custom wiring was involved to get them to work just right, not something I'd be comfortable fiddling with on my own. But they turned out pretty good and look great in person. Really modernizes the car, IMO. Wish there was an option to just "buy" lights like these!

@David_Vasha: I don't know, like I said above the work was done by someone else. But they're very bright! You could almost get away with just using those at night lol.

Can you send me the number to this guy so I can send him my headlights? And did you get the dash alarm coded out?

I have done several dual AE sets for people, though I only do one color, white, but they must be facelift Bi-Xenon which come stock with the crappy dim single AE.

Those look pretty cool. I experimented with some dual color LED rings called switchbacks and the wiring was pretty straightforward to get the turn signals to flash orange. On the 2 color the white just weren't as bright as the white only ones since every other LED was orange which reducing the number of white LEDs.

so jealous because the white side markers is something I wanted to do for so long. I’ve even took apart an old headlight of mine to see if I could remove the orange filters inside the headlight without unsealing it.

Somewhere sometime ago I believe somebody chimed in and said the amber was breakable with a long screwdriver, some patience and vacuum/hose out the broken bits
